John Teresi Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Dr........I knew this was going to be bad to the bone.........Dr. you have some talent Sir.......Very Very cool man.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Things are coming together slow, one part a time. I sprayed a gloss coat on the fenders and chassis to seal in the Auto Air Color paint. Now it's not so delicate any more. I've done the same to the body, but not in this picture. The wheels are getting reading, etc . . . Chassis assembly begins . . . Thanks, John, for the kind words. Coming from a master builder like you, I am honored. Stay tuned in for more progress . . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 I've tried to add a variety of colors (metalizers) to the chassis elements just to make them stand out, and besides, why not? Gotta use up all of that Testor's stuff I have . . . although some of these elements are also airbrushed. . . . Here's a mock up where we are so far . . . Have also started to work on the engine:
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Initially I thought of adding wide whites to the tires . . .but then I thought this would would look better with completely black shoes . . . plus after it's done, I plan to dust some of that fine Egyptian sand dust on the treads and tires . . . I would love to have a glass pyramid to display this one in. Maybe I can get someone to build a pyramid out of plexiglass. That would look really cool.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) Here's the engine so far . . . I am actually enjoying working on this engine. The Revell 34 kit comes with the two different options and of course I decided to go with the flathead. Edited November 1, 2011 by Dr. Cranky
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Making more progress . . .and still test fitting . . . The shine on this one is subtle and I have to say I like it, it brings out the pattern of the candy and the cheesecloth (I mean mummy wrapping) very well.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 The engine too is looking good so far, but I still have to wire it . . . And to think that after all the parts are assembled, the fun of weathering will begin . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Speaking of wiring, I added the brake cables from the chassis to the calipers . . . And I am planning to dress the exhaust with a couple of aluminum tips . . .
MachinistMark Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Not sure how i feel about tall the add on doodads and Jigger-ma-doos, but the paint work is killer. Love the fog work around the panel edges.
stulee11 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 i am really loving this build its the kind ov mental freaky things i see in my dreams lmao as for the display case i would not only say make it in the shape of a pyramid but also airbrush it to look like one to with clear parts to show off your awsome work !!
Ryan S. Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Looking good so far. I love the colors! Do/ did you have any problems with the tail adding weight to the rear and the car wanting to wheel-stand?
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 A little bit, but once it is on the body, there's no problem. I thought about filling the engine with led weight . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Thanks for the wonderful comments. I continue to make slow progress. Stay tuned in for more pictures . . .
kenb Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 That's spooktacular. Real cool unque build. The color is awesome. Keep it coming. Ken
Dr. Cranky Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Right now I am working on the interior and some engine details . . . the chassis is done . . .
Wagoneer81 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Wild and insane, as usual! It just HAS to be the cigars... What kind do you smoke? And where can I get a box? I need all the help I can get...
Dr. Cranky Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 I smoke COROJO #3 and #5s (toros) and I get them from FAMOUS CIGARS in Pennsylvania.
Wagoneer81 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I smoke COROJO #3 and #5s (toros) and I get them from FAMOUS CIGARS in Pennsylvania. Cool, thanks! Just what the Good Doctor ordered...
Dr. Cranky Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Been working on all the details for the interior, which is still not finished, and I still have a whole bunch of other stuff to do . . . but here, as promised, are some pics . . . If anyone knows where I can get in scale Egyptian figures, that would be great . . . I still have to do all the trim fixings in gold and then apply a dark wash . . . etc, etc., etc. . . .
MachinistMark Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 the hieroglyphs on the running boards is a nice touch.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 All the work done to the interior is done with paper graphics found on Google Image and shrunk down to scale . . . It's fun to work with a kit this good, and that it goes together so well . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Thanks, buddy. I would have done them on the body, but I could not find any nail art templates . . . that would have looked very cool. I'm still thinking of wrapping the front of the front fenders in tape, give it that mummy-wrapped look, but we'll see . . .
MachinistMark Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 (edited) yeah? that tape i used for the seats in my 50 chevy would probably work pretty good for that. I use it mostly for doing header wrap on my drag racie builds, and now i found out it makes a good seat cover. Edited November 2, 2011 by MachinistMark
Dr. Cranky Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 I gotta cut mine just to make sure it's in scale . . . I'm thinking it might be a nice extra touch . . .
