2000-cvpi Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 On a quick trip to Meijer's tonight I saw the seasonal model display. The cars are mostly the same as last year, Enzo, several 32 Ford's, the 66 Impala/Caprice, lots of Monogram reissues and the Nova. Basically the same stock as a Hobby Lobby. The big deal is the price's went up from 10.99 to 14.99 for the kits. With the price bump, the kits aren't as cheap as a 40% Hobby Lobby coupon.
Hypermung Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I don't speak for all Aussies, but even $14.99 for a kit is cheap over here. Consider that Meijer's (or ANY hobby store) have to make a profit to continue, they must be buying them from the wholesaler for $10 or less... Then add shipping to Australia, freight & distribution once they get over here, then our local hobby shops markup, means that same kit will cost you $40+ over here, which is why I still buy heaps of kits off ebay.. $15-$20 for a kit + another $20 for postage still makes it about the same price, but there's a ton of different things to wet your appetite on ebay as compared to the tripe my LHS has to offer.
Junkman Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 At least there in USA the kits are getting back into the stores, whereas over here, they are still being phased out.
Craig Irwin Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 This is for Christmas only, and will be gone after the first of the year.
VooDooCC Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I checked, and they Meijer in town has them, ranging from 10.99 to 16.99 (I believe those were the prices) but yes it's a Christmas only thing
ranma Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Ya its to bad that its seasonal. Wal Mart decided never to carry them quote they werent profitable enough and the glue + paint was being miss used.
Chuck Most Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Closest Meijer to me did not carry them last year- don't think I'm gonna bother checking this year.
route66modeler Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 HI, They are good deals if you don't have a h/l or michaels close. You can't beat michaels taking joann fabric 50% off coupons. I got on joann's mailing list and they mail you coupons. Steve
Chuck Most Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I was just in Meijer's today, no models... but they DID have copies of Fine Scale Modeler for sale on the rack.
Casey Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I think Michelle said Meijer's had all of their holiday stuff (which included models) on clearance, so they may already be sold out.
2000-cvpi Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 I checked a few local Meijers tonight and found some clearance kits / left over's. I picked up seven kits for 7.49 each. I think i did ok, seven kit's that I don't have for the price of two regular priced kits.
Casey Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Looks like some Meijer stores will be getting the special pallet of select kits from Round2: https://www.round2corp.com/model-kit-quarter-pallets-available-soon-at-meijer/ 1
mikemodeler Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Looks similar to the Wal Mart display, maybe different selection?
OldNYJim Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Oh nice! We're pretty close to South Bend (where Round 2 is based) and have a Meijer really close by...
espo Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Wally World around here still isn't carrying models. May have to move ?
Rob Hall Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 A Meijers opened here in June, haven’t been in lately. Will have to check it out.
deuces wild Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Cool!.... I have a couple of gift cards for Miejers that I need to use up.....
Dave Van Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Gotta give it to R2 for getting product in front of new eyes.
Casey Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) Note that is says "select stores", not all stores. My local Meijer stores haven't stocked any models for a few years, and when they did, it was only during the holiday season. I recall the 1/24 Monogram Mazda RX-7 was one of the available kits then. I would imagine stores closer to Round2's location in South Bend, IN stand a better chance of stocking them. Edited October 5, 2021 by Casey 1
deuces wild Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 I remember in the 2000s Meijer had whole racks filled with model kits... Most of my stash is bought from there along with a few Aztec (?) air brush sets, Testers bottle paint sets and so on...
OldNYJim Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 I wish these model companies wouldn’t keep it a secret which stores exactly have their product - just tell us which ones have stock!

Prior to that, the selection had slowly been withering for several years, to the point that they only had dreck like the old Monogram '56 Chevy and about a 1/2 dozen other lowest common denominators. Seems like this is coming full circle to what they were doing about 12 years ago, when they would bring in well-stocked center aisle displays as Christmas approached. Had a good selection of Revell-Monogram product at that time. That's around the last time that I managed to score a '77 Monte Carlo snapper. This is the first example I've seen of them carrying Round 2 products. I suspect it's a case of "monkey see, monkey do" after watching Walmart's recent MO.
paul alflen Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 (edited) My buddy has CRS disease. He told me Lowes instead of Walmart has models. Sorry for any misinformation this has caused to any Tennessee modelers. Previous post is now deleted. Very sorry! Edited October 16, 2021 by paul alflen wrong information posted due to not fact checking 1
