PARTSMARTY Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 i nedd help guys!i stripped and painted some caddy wheel colors with spaz stix black backer and then a few coats of the mirror chrome and looked just kind of like silver.what did i do wrong?i didn't put it on too thick or anything!
High octane Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 When I use Spaz-Stix I use a light coat of primer followed by a coat of Krylon Gloss Black and then Spaz-Stix and I've had no problems.
PARTSMARTY Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 thanx nick,i appreciate it.i didn't use primer but it just didn't look chrome at all--i'll try it-again thanx
VW Dave Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 The secret is super light 'misty' coats, and I apply 2 or 3 at the most; putting it on like regular paint makes it look like regular paint. I use Tamiya gloss or semi-gloss black as the base color, and I've had very good results.
dig Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 since it dries so fast, how long do you give it between coats?
VW Dave Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 (edited) I've given it half a day or overnight in most cases, mainly because my build time as of late is sketchy. The board was giving me fits the other night and not allowing me to post pictures, but I'll try to put one or two up again tonight. The headers on my deuce's flatty were done with 2 misty coats of SpazStix over Tamiya semigloss black; compared to the kit-supplied chrome cylinder heads and air cleaners, I'm very happy with the results: Edited December 28, 2011 by VW Dave
High octane Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 since it dries so fast, how long do you give it between coats? I give it about 20 minutes in between coats just like any other paint and it works for me because the parts and grille/bumper that I sprayed looks real good.
