phoneguy Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 The fonts and sizes vary from company to company. I use a variety of them but you can start off with Arial Bold, 7 pt. and see how that looks.
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 (edited) Here is what I do. In WORD (micro soft office) open up a blank page.. Create an outline of all font sizes and all font texts don't forget about WINGDINGS those symbols can be incorperated into logos and print them all on blank paper. Below is an example of an outline I've done. When you are done go to an office supply jobber like Kinko's (I know FEDEX bought them just can't think of the name I think it's FEDEX OFFICE now) and have those laminated. When you are done these will be good reference pages for making your own decals for Trucks, USDOT,unit numbers,LOGOS, Company names, for mud flaps, storage compartment doors back of cab, Trailers unit numbers for the Radius', Logos for the nose side panels, rear doors and so on or any other type of modeling you do. The cool thing about doing this is all fonts and sizes are on your laminated reference sheets. So if you make a truck in 1:32 scale or one in 1:16 scale just hold the part you want a logo,co. name, or unit number on next to that sheet and compare the font size that looks proportioned to that part. If you're not sure look at a picture of a truck say on the net and see how big the USDOT Numbers are on it and go down your reference sheet and find the right font size you think looks to scale you're building. Then when you create your decals in WORD you know what size and font w/ zero guesswork you'll need and make the adjustments as needed to the WORD page. Laminating these pages will preserve them for long life. It'll take ya an hour or so to list everything but IT WILL BE DONE!!! Here's a brief example below FONT SIZE.. 8 ABC 123 10 ABC 123 12 ABC 123 14 ABC 123 18 ABC 123 24 ABC 123 36 ABC 123 48 ABC 123 FONTS .... (JUST SPELL OUT THE NAME OF THE FONT IN THAT FONT) ARIAL COMIC SANS MS COURIER NEW GEORGIA LUCIDA SANS UNICODE TAHOMA TIMES NEWS ROMAN TREBUCHET MS VERDANA Edited December 26, 2011 by Semi Trailer Mechanic
