catd11rpusher Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I have a question, you guys make the fuel lines on the injector pumps look great, what do you use to do that? Also I just finished my 123 kenworth and the picks will be in tomorrow, when I figure it out. also the engine I'm working on is the engine in the chevy titan I think its a detroit. Any help to add detail and where to get the pictures to use thanks all
Ben Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Start collecting various sizes of small solid wire. Most injector lines on real truck engines are about 3/8" to 1/2" in diameter so your going to want to find a small size to depict that in scale. You want the wire to be stiff but not like a paper clip. This way you can bend it into tight bends and it will hold it's shape. For "T" fittings you can either fabricate them from a tiny block of plastic or you can place a drop of epoxy where the lines intersect and after the epoxy cures you can file it into shape. The turbo oil feed line is a pressure line that goes to the top, between the two halves of the turbo. This is often a steel braided line. This can be replicated using any small braided line. The drain line from the turbo is a metal pipe with a short rubber connector where it meets the side of the engine block. Also, there are several articles from Ken Smith that show in great detail, how to properly plumb most engines found in model truck kits. There are also some guys out there, such as Kurt McLucas here in this forum that have produced some outstanding scale decals for engines. Things such as oil filter labels, fuel filter, etc. If you would like to see the Cummins I built (in my avatar), you can see the pics in my "Snowman's rig" album on my Fotki site. jekylljr Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 what i like to use is thin mechanics wire not sure of proper guage but it bends easily and works get for air line or even hydraulic hose ends.anything really including fuel lines for example i used the mechanics wire to plumb a cat engine from the fuel injector pump to the injector heads
cowboysevens Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Mike go to the walmart and get ya some beeding wire from the beeds and .crafts department. It come with 12 3 yard rolls in different colors, not that color matters cause your gonna paint it anyways. For all that wire its only $5! It is perfect size and stiffness for wireing , fuel lines etc etc
Badluck 13 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 another idea, use guitar strings especially the brass wound wire paint it black or whatever color you want and it looks like the plastic loom stuff your wiring is covered in. Hey thanks Leo!!!!,never gave that a thought and I got some of that!!!!! and it would be perfect for the loom look!!!
