Wheels Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I've heard some say, that when you paint you should stay with the same manufacture of paint, primer and clear coat to avoid problems. I know many builders use different paint from different sources such as nail polish and so on... Now, I have a bunch of rattle can paints that I want to use up, and I have some Dulpicolor primers that I like to use. Are they compatable with Krylon, Rust-O-leum, Plasti-kote, Testors and Tamiya paints? Are there any issues with adhesion? What are your thoughts?
Guest Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) As long as your primer is a laquer, you can spray anything over it. I'm almost 100% sure Dupli Color primer is a laquer. I always use Plasti Kote. I just finished a project that I used Plasti Kote primer,Dupli Color paint and Tamiya clear. Just remember that you can't spray laquer over enamel, but you can spray enamel over laquer. To avoid adhesion problems, make sure to sand your primer before paint and sand your paint before clear. Unless it's a metallic laquer paint. I've sanded every metallic enamel paint job I've ever done with no problems. Edited January 11, 2012 by plowboy
JamesW Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) I've used DupliColor scratch filler primer, sandable primer and primer sealer under all kinds of paint without any problems. I won't use any other kind of primer. Edited January 11, 2012 by JamesW
