feralhusky Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I've got a few models in which I want to use factory stripes but with custom colors, I want to make stenciles for these stripes so I can paint them onto the model. What would be the best or easiest way to make stenciles and what material would I use?
Evil Appetite Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) Try Frisket film..you can pick them up at places like Michaels. They come in packs of 9" x 12" 12 sheets http://www.allartsup...CFYvRKgodkC3xmA Edited January 18, 2012 by Evil Appetite
Dr. Cranky Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 You can also airbrush a liquid mask . . . or use tape.
scalenut Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) If you get a sheet of frisket , a trick I learned is you can run it thru your printer and print the art on the backside, than you can see thru the frisket and cut it out.(you might have to cut the sheet down to fit the printer first) you can draw in paint or whatever drawing program comes with your computer just remember to click "mirror image" before printing. unless it doesn't matter which way it's flipped..like simple stripes Edited January 18, 2012 by scalenut

The Creative Explorer Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 If you want to paint stripes on cars; don't use film or stencils. In the case of frisket, applying is quite hard compared to masking tape and stencils will not give you that sharp line if it has even the slightest bulge or round shape. You can't beat masking tape for stripes.
feralhusky Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Thanks you all! I'll look into some frisket.
scalenut Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 just be gentile with it ,, it stretches out of shape easy. typically it's cut directly on the object it's applied to because all it takes is just a light score with the blade just the weight of the knife.
