glenn Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I have pinted a body with tamiya undercoat and gloss white from a spray can but im not happy after the body fell onto a rug straight after I painted it so I want to strip the paint and start again,I don't know what the spray is as it doesnt mention wether its enamel or laquer.i have haerd alot of people mention purple power and a few other things but i cant source them or find them here.will brake fluid(dot3?) be ok? also need to strip some paint from resin wheels, they have tamiya undercoat and unknown spray and then I hand painted them with enamel but I want to start again with a new colour combo, can i use brake fluid on resin?
Mike Kucaba Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Lacquer thinner will strip resin, but don't soak it. If you can't source Purple power or super clean try Dawn power dissolver. It's made by Procter&Gamble and they are a multi-national so it might be available.
glenn Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 have already tried easy off on the body but we only have the non toxic version which strips chrome but won't remove paint.ill have a look for the dawn stuff.is this purple power the same you guys use? http://www.wynns.net/ind_cleaners.aspx
62rebel Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 still-soft paint should come off with WD-40 on styrene... i had to strip lacquer off a kit body this week and used plain thinner on paper towels to rub it off. i have never used resin parts, but if the paint has cured, you MAY be able to chip it off or scrape it off. i had a promo Dodge Challenger from 70-71 that had been brush painted and i was able to chip that paint off, slowly, and get a clean surface. hundreds of little yellow paint chips, a millimeter at a time... and if you do use WD-40, wash the heck out of the body before you try to repaint it.
Greg Wann Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I did not read other responses! Tamiya is some kind of hybrid paint. I once painted a seat racing read and two hours later nothing would remove it but Mr. Paint Remover. It laughed at brake fluid, oven cleaner and the purple pond too. You will want to be careful with resin. You might just have to sand it smooth and paint over it!
realgone58 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I made the mistake of brake fluid on resin one time..........ended up using the thing for a Magic Eraser after.........
