BOSWELL891 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Heres a Fairlane that have started on, nothing really done except for the body painted, I usually don't paint the body first but I painted this as a demo for a guy who wants me to paint slot cars for him. I airbrushed this using enamels, my first time using them, and I think it turned out great. This build will be mostly box stock except for a few things.
futurattraction Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Looking good! I love Fairlanes and those old '64 Thunderbolts are right up at the top of the list.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Cole, that's looking good. The color really makes it stand out. And I like the stance . . . keep this one going.
SuperStockAndy Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Very cool What kind of enamel did you use, like Testors, etc?
BOSWELL891 Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Model Master enamel shot through my Passche H model airbrush
SuperStockAndy Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Awesome, thanks. I've been debating trying enamel again (I really only use lacquer), because it dries shinier and all that
tyrone Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 nice looking build so far I like the stance...
BOSWELL891 Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Thanks for the comments everyone, this is only my second drag car,my first one was built when i was fairly new to the hobby so its nothing special but this one will be a lot better.
Patrick2005 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I always loves those Thunderbolts, can't wait to see more.
BOSWELL891 Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 got the front seats, motor, and transmission painted last night.
BOSWELL891 Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 Did some BMF work today and I am pleased with how it turned out since its my first time using it, I'm not near as good as most people on here but I'm still happy. I also put on the stripe decals it comes with that go over top of the chrome trim, at first I was going to use the black stripes but after ripping one during installation I had to use the white, and I couldn't believe how much the white contrasted with the blue making it look way better than it did with the black stripes. You can barely see the white decal in the picture but it really pops in person.
futurattraction Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 That's looking really nice, Cole! Keep up the great work...
Haubenschild Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 (edited) Nice foiling and the white stripe looks awesome against the blue paint! Edited February 18, 2012 by Haubenschild
BOSWELL891 Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Well just when I thought that I would have this kit done soon, there has been a set back, the front windshield is no where to be found so now I have got to wait for revell to send me a new one which will take forever, and the sad part is I don't ever remember seeing or holding the thing.
SuperStockAndy Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Got any old Hot Wheels blister packs? Make a windshield out of one. Yes, it will be hard to get the curve, but you could use a hair dryer to heat the plastic up a little.
Erik Smith Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Well just when I thought that I would have this kit done soon, there has been a set back, the front windshield is no where to be found so now I have got to wait for revell to send me a new one which will take forever, and the sad part is I don't ever remember seeing or holding the thing. ^^second above - you can try to get a clear piece of styrene to fit. I have two of these done and I think the kit windshield was a little tricky to get set correct anyway - seems the drivers side upper corner didn't want to stay high enough to hide the bend in glass (where it curves into the roof). Looking good though!
BOSWELL891 Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Ok I got the thinnest clear styrene sheet they make today and its flexible like paper almost so that will be easy to form to the windshield
BOSWELL891 Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 (edited) Revell sent me my front windshield I applied for so I pulled this kit back out and started on it again here's some pictures, with the motor almost done and mocked up in the car. Now I just need to figure out a color for the wheels Edited February 26, 2012 by BOSWELL891
SuperStockAndy Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Very nice The wheels, I'd just paint em blue.
BOSWELL891 Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Ok guys got a couple of small things done, painted the chassis and wheels, started some window trim foiling, everything for the interior is painted just waiting to be assembled, and the motor is done so hopefully I can wrap this one up by the end of the week. Here's a picture of what the car will look like done for the most part and the motor out of the car.
