Ironman63
I recently got started building again after a 15 year hiatus. I saw the Lonestar on a racing tv show and I loved it and said that is what I want to build. So I found one on the 'bay for $53 including shipping shortly before Christmas. Now I have to decide what trailer I would like for it. I found a pic from a company out of New Jersey that I really like their paint scheme. I have included some pics of it. http://i1113.photobu...kLonestar04.jpg http://i1113.photobu...kLonestar03.jpg http://i1113.photobu...kLonestar02.jpg http://i1113.photobu...kLonestar01.jpg My question is what kind of tanker trailer is it hauling(Fruehauf, Beall, etc.) and is there a model of it or fairly close to it? I know the sideskirts on the LoneStar kit are made differently from the tractor in the pics. How hard would it be to scratchbuild the fuel tank and boxstep? I've not done a lot of scratchbuilding for models, but I have scratchbuilt a few items for my model railroad. Any advice and help will be greatly appreciated. Also, is there anyone who lives in NJ and could possibly get a few more shots of it, like the front, left side and backend of the trailer for a little more detail? Thanks again. scale trucker
mark welcome back to modeling..and i would say the beall tanker is probably the closest to that just no third axle..
Ben
Like Gordon said, the Beall tanker is your best bet. I don't believe there are any other semi elliptical tanker kits even available other than the old IMC/Testors milk type tanker. Adding a third axle wouldn't be too much trouble. Jamie Rahmoeller, a member of the forum here, sells a very nice air ride trailer suspension (by the axle) that even has real rubber air bags. It would be a huge improvement over the Beall kit suspension.
Ironman63
OK, thanks for the quick replies. Gordon, great job on the tanker. Ben, do you have a link to where I can find the suspension parts? Thanks. Edited February 14, 2012 by Ironman63
