hellonwheelz3 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I have been in somewhat of a model building...funk...over the last several months because the last several models i've tried to put together did not go well, either because of something I had done or just an ill fitting kit. What would you guys recommend as a kit that would get the fire going again? I'm not looking for anything real spectacular, just something that is maybe an easy kit to do without having to stress about it too much. Thanks everyone.
Scuderia Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) Revell 87 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe went together really nice as I recall. I did it a year ago Edited March 11, 2012 by Scuderia
Erik Smith Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Monogram 1964 GTO. Low parts count, very nice looking kit, fits together very well, easy to find, inexpensive...
Mike Kucaba Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 AMT's '62 Pontiac catalina and I agree about Mono's '64 GTO
MachinistMark Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 the new 48 ford custom kit, and the 49 merc kit from revell those kits literally fall together.
Junkman Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Monogram Shelby 350 GT. Man, did that kit fit well into my rubbish bin.
sportandmiah Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Have you tried any Tamiya kits? They piece together so accurately you would be amazed.
Junkman Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Have you tried any Tamiya kits? They piece together so accurately you would be amazed. Yeah, until you have to fit the windows.
Sixx Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 For me it was any of Revell's 41 willys...SW&C, Big John's, also Revells 49 Merc
1930fordpickup Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 The Tamiya kits should fit that good at the price they charge .
Scuderia Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 The Tamiya kits should fit that good at the price they charge . Quoted for truth haha.
sportandmiah Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Yeah, until you have to fit the windows. Which kit? I've built a ton of Tamiyas with no ill fitting glass. In fact I am amazed at how easily they snap in.
Junkman Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Which kit? I've built a ton of Tamiyas with no ill fitting glass. In fact I am amazed at how easily they snap in. Jag MKII.
Scale-Master Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 The Tamiya Lexus LFA is pretty damned impressive for fit. I'd say as close to a 10 out of 10 as you'll find. And the glass fits perfectly.
monkeyclaw Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Anything Tamiya....just shake the box and the completed model falls out! Matt
sportandmiah Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 The Tamiya kits should fit that good at the price they charge . Yup. They charge more because they fit together so well.
Ramfins59 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Sometimes I get out of a building funk by just building a Slammer. Pick a cool set of wheels & put 'em on a flat black chassis, glue the hood shut, paint the body a cool color, black out the windows and you're done... Instant gratification usually will cure you. Either that or throw together a couple of Snap kits for your kids, younger relatives, or grandchildren... That'll work too...
jbwelda Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 >there are a number of Tamiya kits on Tower Hobbies for under $20 theres some truth.
Tonioseven Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Revell '49 Mercury. AMT '62 Chevies (Bel Air & Impala).
Chuck Most Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Hard to beat Revell's series of '32 Fords as far as good fit goes. One stipulation is this- building a version with fenders might be a bit more of a challenge than doing one as a Highboy, because fit of the fenders to the body and frame is a bit tight, but other than that, I've never had one of those kits fight me.
