I didnt see this posted already, so I hope I'm not reposting old news.

I just got some pics of the new cup car from Chryslers dealer site. It looks pretty neat I think, for a

race car.

I know this is nascar related, but I'm sure there are a few people who might like to see this but might not be into it enough to read the nascar posts regularly.

I'll confess I haven't really followed NASCAR in years but this car looks like its a new direction? It doesn't have the same body shape as all the other cars. Are they finally returning to cars that have different bodies from one another?

Thats what caught my eye as well, I sure hope so. I don't fallow it much either, but I got a little giddy when I seen it.

When Fiat-Chrysler does away with their Puerized Komputer system and their four door body , maybe I'll get interested in the company again ......... Ed Shaver

I am very excited about 2013, with the body styles, I really like the design of the 2013 Charger cup car, its really close looking to the street version.

I like it better then I do the 2013 Ford Fusion design. Chevy will not using the Impala in 2013, but they have yet to name the nameplate they are using, only stating that its going to be a new car to the lineup.

I really think that with the new design of the cup cars, will help NASCAR alot, its something that has been lacking, the cars not looking like the street versions.

Chevy to replace Impala in 2013 with another Chevy brand: Chevrolet is developing a new car with a new name for its 2013 NASCAR entry, replacing the Impala used by Team Chevy, and plans to eventually market and sell the new model to consumers. The dealership and racing versions of the car will be unveiled this year, after the New York auto show in April, spokesman Monte Doran said. The new car will use a nameplate not currently in Chevy's lineup. Neither the car nor its name will be a derivative of an existing one, such as the new Malibu or the upcoming redesigned Impala, Doran said. General Motors wouldn't reveal details. "We are keeping the wraps on the new car for now and will continue to prepare for next season by testing camouflaged vehicles," Jim Campbell, vice president of Chevrolet performance vehicles and motorsports, said in a statement. "We know that Chevrolet fans are eager to see the new race car, and we hope that the prospect of being able to own one just like it will make the wait a little more bearable."

The new car may be a version of the Chevy Caprice currently imported from Australia for U.S. police forces. Inside GM, a plan to develop a Chevy performance sedan like the Caprice for consumers was on-and-off in recent years because of concerns that it wasn't a high-profit vehicle, people familiar with the situation said. Australia's Holden brand currently offers consumers a variation on the U.S. Caprice. Along with developing the new performance sedan, GM is redesigning the current Impala, which will be built at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant and is expected to hit showrooms by spring 2013. The automaker is also rolling out a redesigned Malibu.(Detroit Free Press, more at MotorTrend and a past post at AutoWeek)(3-13-2013)

Why not just "Chevy" or "Ford", or even "Dodge"....Do they even need a model on it.

For marketing purposes, it needs to be a specific reality-based model name, I would think.

I like what I've seen of the 2013 Focus and Charger race cars, more interesting than the current generic COT models.

I agree with that interesting part.

Right now, there is only one Team going to be running the Dodge Charger for next year, with Penske going to ford, Dodge is saying that they have teams that are interested in running Dodge next year. But as of now, there will be only one Charger on the track next year.

Now that teams have seen the new Charger I'm hoping that more will be interested in running it.

Would be cool to see Petty switch from Ford to Dodge...a Petty Blue #43 Charger would be cool to see..

That is the most likely team to swich but I think they would like to also get another team.

Right now, RPM ( Richard Petty Motor sports) is saying that they have no plans to switch . The big problem facing Dodge and getting teams to switch, is that there is only one team that has a Dodge engine department, and that is Penske, so as of now , when Penske leaves, so does Dodges engine program.

So there has been a little talk about Dodge having to do what Toyota does and have their own in house engine department that makes the engines for the teams.

We wont see any teams switch tell some sort of engine program for Dodge has been put into place

Petty says they have no plans to swich but their contract with Ford does end at the end of the year, its standard practice to downplay any rumors until the paperwork has been signed. As far as engines Dodge is looking at doing things in house, but there is always Buddy/Joey Arrington who build engines for some Nationwide series and Truck teams.

As cool as the character features look, I can't imagine a team would opt for it over a "cleaner" body unless the drag coefficient has been slightly reduced for all new models.

Right, thats why I said planning on, they gotta keep the waters clam with Ford for the rest of the year  , the only way I see someone other then Dodge producing engines would be a big team, and I dont think RPM is big enough to do in house engines for Dodge. They are not making engines now as it is.

I think there are two dominos that need to fall, first being who is going to produce the Dodge engine before the second domino of what team is going to switch to fall. maybe, but I could be wrong

Wonder why Dodge doesn't just create an offshoot division of SRT to build the engines? Perhaps then that way Joe Schmoe could potentially get a Dodge racing spec crate engine for his drag car.

I dont know why, but the only manufacturer that has an engine program is Toyota, and they cut back on that program as well. They went from providing engines to all teams running Toyota to only six, so maybe it has to with cost.

I think someone will take the plunge. If Dodge is serious about being in NASCAR (as it appears they are) they will find a team and work out the engine issue. I love the cars running in Nationwide now (the Mustang and Challenger) and NASCAR sees the advantage (about time!) of recognizable cars on the track, they want that for the Sprint Cup as well. I like the new Dodge, have always liked the looks of the Charger body style.
