Sam Cates Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 So, I was kicking around boxes while re-organizing and arranging my room, I know I have plenty of stuff to build, goodness knows I have PLENTY of stalled projects to get back to...but I found myself taking a break and surfing ebay and CL. I don't even have any money to spend! Before I knew it I was searching for more large scale drag stuff (saw a post for 1/16 stuff in the trades forum). Then I was looking at the aftermarket sites and making lists of what I want to get as soon as I get back to school and work...WTH? Anyone else get the "itch" at the worst times, and if so, what do you look for and where? Where do you find the best bargains, and how do you talk yourself down from a wallet meltdown? I need to know I am not the only plastic junkie in the world...
Wagoneer81 Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 I get it all the time... weekly, no less... I need another project or need to add to the stash or need to spend the money like I need another hole in the head, but I still get it... I still look around for deals, parts, componentes, etc... Yeah, I still 'window shop' all the time. what do I do to talk myself out of a second bankruptcy? I start thinking about what I can do with what I have and the itch kinda gets scratched from there... So, no worries, You're not the only plastic junkie out there.. There are thousands of us, I guarantee!
Rob McKee Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 I cannot get rid of the itch! I am addicted to plastic for sure. The way I look at it even if I buy a kit a week it is cheaper than sitting in a bar or getting into some other form of trouble. This is a great hobby and I enjoy it very much.
zot Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) I am the same way!! I think a lot of it for me is the thrill of the hunt, so to speak, more than anything. There is no way I could build everything that I own even if I lived to be 500 years old. I agree with Rob. My money could be going into much worse vises than plastic. As far as what I look for...it depends on the day. Edited March 27, 2012 by zot

As far as what I look for...it depends on the day. I'm with you there Scott. Whatever catches my eye in the Under glass or on the workbench sections drives me to acquire kits. The hunt is fun, trying to find old or new kits that trip my trigger at the moment. For example, I just have to get the 1999 Ford F-150 Lightning kit now. I had it before and really want to get it again. Why? I just do, that is why.
rmvw guy Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) The new stuff is what is driving me crazy along with the prices. Sometimes the answer is in your own closet. Open an old one up that's still in the wrap. Sometimes I forget what came in some of these kits with all the kit bashing I do. The answer might just be in the box. When I have limited sources I try to save what I do have for paint, glue and other supplys so I can finish what I have. Edited March 27, 2012 by rmvw guy
Scuderia Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 yeah i get that itch pretty good, and usually stuff i want pops up at unbeatable deals right when im not in a position to buy it seems lol.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Styrene Addiction is a wonderful thing, and yes, the "itch" doesn't get cured until you build a few more models, and then a few more, just one more, really, one more . . .
Sam Cates Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 Good call guys. I scratched my itch just this morning...We bought my daughter a puppy for her 12th birthday a couple months ago, cute little SOB, but she hasn't acquired the patience and resposibility to handle such a creature (Jack Russell/Chihuahua). So last night she made the responsible decision to give him up to someone who could give him the time and love he needs and my wife got a few bucks out of the deal (rehoming fee). First thing I did was finagle $13 from the missus for a kit I saw at the LHS yesterday... I tell my wife the same thing Rob, my hobby is FAR more constructive and safe than some others I used to have. Glad to see this topic got going a bit!
