vintagestang
I will be experimenting with things to use to make molds and am wondering what to use as a release agent. I will be using RTV and Sticky Tack for sure.
RyanSilva
Using rtv silicone, you will really only need the mold release for 2 part molds, and Easy at home recipe is simply petroleum jelly, just graze the jelly surface to pick up most of the oils and spread away, you can mix it with mineral spirits to create a thinner substance but it works both ways. monkeyclaw
Um; NO! Try using an actual release....alumilites' rubber to rubber is a great choice for seperation during the making of 2 piece molds....alumilite also sells a GREAT spray can of UMR (universal mold release) Which does NOT affect the post casting paint process.....I use it all the time.....putting (vaseline) in your molds is just BAD advice.........Period...if it doesn't destroy your molds....you will NEVER get it off your parts..........My 2 cents....and I cast parts.......Matt Edited April 4, 2012 by monkeyclaw
