crispy Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 The Tamiya Nissan R-34 Z-Tune: The car will be sprayed with Zero Paints Nissan Chrome Silver. This is a Z-Tune only color. P.E. is from Tamiya as well. A nice simple box stock build. I've always like how the R-34's looked, mean! This kit when it came out was a must have. I figure I have built an Evo, now I need this and a Scooby to complete the tri-fecta! Chris
crispy Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 Well, here is where I am at now. It's now sitting on all four wheels and tires. Oddly enough she sits on 3 wheels with the wheels in the straight position. However, when I turn the wheels they sit on all fours. Either I didn't do something right or I got a small warp in my kit. Anyway, the humidity is still bad so I won't be able to get the body painted yet. I'll keep plugging away at it. Thanks for looking. Chris
MrObsessive Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Japan's Camaro! And I love 'em! Too Bad Nissan never saw fit to export those here............... Looks good so far Chris.........keep us posted!
KENNEDYJR Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Kind of off track, but what are you using for a benchtop?
crispy Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 Thanks Bill! R G-- Here is my bench: The grid is a self healing mat intended for people who sew. My wife bought it for me last year. Not the type I wanted, but hey, the wife did ok and it works. You can see more of my hobby room by CLICKING HERE
Zoom Zoom Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Looking great so far! One of those kits that has eluded me so far. I sure hope Tamiya/Fujimi/Aoshima see fit to tool up the new GT-R that's coming out.
Modelmartin Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I like tidy work areas. I must do that some day! By the way, where do you put your legs while model building at your bench?
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Looking great so far! One of those kits that has eluded me so far. I sure hope Tamiya/Fujimi/Aoshima see fit to tool up the new GT-R that's coming out. I have that kit and Tamiya's photoetch detail set that goes with it. Someday, it will be my first Tamiya build. I too hope that one of Japan's little three toolsl up the new GT-R.
crispy Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 Up on all fours: Nice little front shot: Body just needs light sanding now before I apply the Zero paint. Getting the windshield ready for semi gloss black: A couple more pieces of tape and I'll have that sprayed. Really want to get that body done before I get into the interior so it has time to gas out and get it polished. Still have a little finishing to do on the chassis as far as exhaust is concerned. Chris
Ken Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Got this same kit, but I haven't started mine. Hope when I do it turns out as good as yours.
Tonioseven Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 It's coming along quite well!! I have a soft spot for Skylines. 8)
crispy Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 OK, So I finally was able to paint yesterday morning. Whipped out the trusty airbrush and tried out the new to me Zero paints. I am very impressed. Dare I say it applies even better than Cobra Colors does!?!?!? Same goes for the clear-coat, but I highly recommend following their instructions on application. I fudged on them and paid, nothing some 4000 polishing grit couldn't take care of. So we are all clear here, it was user error on the clear. The Zero color is Chrome Silver. I used not even a 1/2 oz. Very nice paint! I'll be ordering more soon. After I polished the errors out I re-sprayed with my favorite clear, Tamiya TS-13. Here is the Zero Clear: Here she is with the final clear of Tamiya: Tough to photograph silver and the shine. At any rate I expect very good results after I get the body polished. I have yet to tape off the body and get the black trim sprayed. Something I will do after a few more days to allow the paint to gas out and harden a bit more before I start taping off. Here is my finished window glass too: I wish every manufacturer supplied window masks! Chris
crispy Posted July 12, 2007 Author Posted July 12, 2007 Progress is slow here. Looking for a more realistic seat, so I used a pin vise and drilled out the seats shoulder points. Here is one that's almost finished next to one I have to start: I debated on whether to tape off the complete car and spray the little bit of black around the windows, but I opted for the method I have been using on a few of the cars. Taping it off and hand painting: I've yet to polish the body, but I want to make sure she gets a good gassing out. I'm hoping to have the interior closer to finished. Going to take lots of detailing. Thanks for looking. Chris
