I'm going to take the leap into molding some of my own small bits. One item i've noticed is a reusable mold, as you heat it to get back to liquid state then you can repour as a new mold. OR should I stay away and stick with the traditional 2-part RTV?

Stuff I've seen from Japan is called Oyumaru. It looks interesting and I've seen other posts on the subject where guys have been able to make a couple parts from a flat 1 piece mold. Even seen a successful 2 piece mold, but you'll only get a couple (if your lucky) good cast parts from it. If your just making a single part or two for yourself and the part is not very complex it may work out. But other than that, stay with 2 part rubber. There are some good options out there that are user friendly and great for starting out. Check out smooth on's line as some do not require a measuring scale. Good luck!

Stick to the traditional stuff Larry and please use a silicone or platinum-based RTV. You'll have better results. Take it from somebody that's been around this stuff for about 25 years.

Yeah i found a really detailed tutorial and it called for silicone RTV and i'll be going with that for sure thanks Robbie

Here is an outstanding Silicone RTV. Easy to use, 1:1 mix and sets up in an hour. The mold life with this still is the longest I've ever worked with!

I found this stuff by accident on Ebay and have been using it ever since. I know that not everyone uses Ebay but for the amount of Rubber that you get with this stuff and it's quality, it can't be beat!!!!
