Is that possible?? I should PM John Teresi, I thought I read one of his threads where he did just that. I figured I'd ask you guys too. I'm trying to spray Alclad chrome on a painted body that has also been cleared with a 2 part urethane. It's the Revell 57 Chevy funny car ( Mongoose ) & I need to chrome the front bumper area. I have used foil on this before in the past ( no pics! ) turned out good, but Alclad is a better choice. Please advise!!! and thanks for any info. Sixx ;)

Doesnt it need a black base to color right? Is the car already black?

No, it's been painted a bright red, then cleared?!

This is a buddy of mine's car. Needs to be like the real car

Sure you can spray the Alclad over Urethane Clear.

After all the key to a good Alclad chrome job is a super smooth surface, but Gloss Black should be your underlying color.

Alclad over Red will probably give you a pinkish hue to the chrome.

Whenever spraying anything over a cured Clear you are supposed to slightly scuff up the surface to give the paint bite.

But,

For a nice smooth chrome you won't be able to do any scuffing or light sanding.

Are you able to scuff the Urethane Clear and then shoot it Gloss Black??

Thanks Pat!! I probably could but that would be hard-some really tight spots to get into. Would that gloss black need to be a urethane? , or could I get away with an enamal? or...

By the way, sorry Harry, wasn't thinking when I started this, thanks for moving it!! ;)

Derrick, like the others said, you have to have a smooth, black surface. Also, remember when in doubt, test spray on a plastic spoon just so that you can see the results without sacrificing your model first.

Yeah, you got that right Doc, not gonna mess up someone else's model. I'm gonna pull out all my different brands of black to see what one won't wrinkle!! I'm leery about spraying enamal, laquer, or acylic over a urethane. Guess I'm a chicken! LOL!!

I thought urethane once cured, was pretty bullit proof? It will stand up to gas pretty well. Maybe im wrong. Please do share your results.

Will do, that's my agenda today. I'll post my findings later! ;)
