my80malibu Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 After sanding down the parting lines on the front tires of My Revell Russ Davis Thunderbolt. The very faint tread that was remaining, is almost gone. Is there a better replacement/ alternate tire for the Dunlop road speed tires in that kit? or is there a way to recreate the tread lines on a tire thats simple.
Guest Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I've ran into the same dilemna Gabriel. I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible to find a good set of those tires. They ALL have a peak right down the center of the tire and the tread is next to non existant. By the time you get the peak sanded out to where the tire is flat, they've turned into a slick. Even if you don't sand the peak out,by the time you get them sanded, the tread is gone. The next best tire that I've found that's the same height and close to the width is the little hollow Firestones that are found in the stock AMT '66 Nova. I'm sure there are other kits, but that's the one I know of. Because of the way the wheels are made,I'm going to have to glue the wheel to the wheelback, then slip the little Firestones on. There's plenty of tread to sand on those.
