1948 is often used as the year that decides if a modified car is a Rod, or a Street Machine. Both might be hot rods, but only the pre '49 beeing a Street Rod, or in some opinions Hot Rod.

There is not many European car kits that allows for making some nice Hot Rods, as most of the pre '49 euros, are luxury cars, and big. Some fun we can have still, but building Rods from one big luxury cruiser after the other will maybe be a bit boreing. We still have some Heller kits, like Citroëns B14, C4 and Traction Avant. Renault Vivastelle, BMW Dixi, and 328. Merceds 170V's, that allows some playing arround. But then You know, they ain't the easiest to build, or easy to find.

Monogram have also launched a couple of nice kits that allow for some pre '49 Hot Rods. I've showed my Jag XK120 earlier. That kit have also been issued by Aoshima. But there is one more, but it might be very hard to find today. In mine opinion it is one of Monograms nicest kits as well, theire Land Rover Series III. The Series III was introduced in '71, so backdating is needed. As I built it with SB Chevy engine, and rearwheeldrive, the driveline was no problem. Wheelbase had to be shortened to 80 inch, wich I belive all '48 mod. Land Rovers had. This is visiualized on the doors, which now are narrower in the bottom. Also the beltline needed to be trimmed down behinde the firewall. I skipped the hardest part, making headlights behind the grill, but also opened for a more free route, as I removed the front wings. To get the wished for stance, I modified the framerails up front. Adding parts from Revell '29 Ford, Johan '31 Cadillac, Monograms Beer Wagon, and more, this is the result.
