Hedgehog Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 (edited) Its almost five in the morning and I'm still on my compu doing research on kits and tools LOL a little late dont you think. I wanted to share something that I think you all should know plus sharing ideas and knowledge is what makes us better. Three days ago I got through mail which is a must-have book for all of the scale model cars addicts. By just reading the first pages I can tell it's a one of a kind book. Great source of information. It's called "Building and Detailing Scale Model Cars" by Pat Covert. I highly recommend that if you don't have this book, invest some money and buy it. My second point for this thread is specially for all the model builders here in L.A. I've found a fantastic hobby store which is my day-off place to go. It's Burbank's house of hobbies. The guys up there are awesome, they know how to treat customers besides really knowing the material they sell. They're such a helpful, and dont rush you to buy stuff. I feel home being there and I don't get forced to buy things if I dont need to. I'm not being paid for this info guys but take the time to visit this place if you get the chance to. Keep on creating Edited May 27, 2012 by Hedgehog
Dr. Cranky Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Wilbert, you have a found a great resource. Mr. Covert's book has been in my collection for years and I refer back to it all the time. You will get lots out of it.
trogdor Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 What is the price you paid for the book ? What I'm finding online is ridiculous
Harry P. Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 It must be out of print, the prices on Amazon are crazy! Almost $100 for a new copy, almost $60 for used!
rhs856 Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I've ordered from House of Hobbies and was very impressed. They have great prices and definitely went above and beyond for me. If I ever make it to California, they're on my list of places to go.
Dr. Cranky Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Both Pat Covert's book (which is has been out in a new edition that includes three previous volumes) and Ken Hamilton's diorama book are hard to come by and when they do they cost an arm and a leg.
Hedgehog Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 Well styrene addicts I checked a lot of places for this books and prices are ridiculous even for used books. I rarely buy from any web that I'm not sure if it's safe plus prices are out of my reach. I found gold getting a new book from Modelroundup. Their price I think it's fair. keep on building.
The70judgeman Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 It must be out of print, the prices on Amazon are crazy! Almost $100 for a new copy, almost $60 for used! Found one on ebay located in Greece for $290 (US) + $35 Shipping . He says it's brand new, but...... Now that's crazy!
tabsscale1 Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Used to be if you had the other Mag send you stuff to give away at model car shows they gave you all theose books to give away. Haven't had them do that for over 5 years now as they pissed me off and never asked them again so don't know if they still do that.Of course I got That stuff about 5 years ago and gave it to the club to give away and when it came time to set up for the show all the books had disappeared club members told me the books weren't in the box but I knew better as I had taken an enventory of the box before I took it down for the contest.
