AzTom Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 The rust is looking great. I had a real 37 Panel so I like this build. The gas tank is correct where you have it for the 1937 pickups and panels. The spout should come out behind the left rear fender. On the real ones the tank was mounted using two bolts on each end through a flange on the end of the tank. No straps were used. The line came out front center. My real 39 Ford had the tank behind the seat and since the 38 - 39 are the same I would guess that practice started in 38. The bottom lip under the doors was the first place to start rusting. The front fenders also cracked and rusted at the mounting bracket. AzTom
bryan_m Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 thanks tom! did i hear you say 37 ford panel truck? here ya go....... i like these 37 kits! hope ya like the panel truck. Flowers auto wreckers is a real business near me, i buy parts from them all the time. i havent shown this to the owner of the business yet.........and its been built for 4 years now. one of these days i will send him some pics, he doesnt even know about it..... thanks for lookin bryan
AzTom Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I do like it. The real panel My Model I have one of the new pickup kits with the 38 grill to build my old 39 truck but the mold lines around the cab need to be reworked, the 38 -39 cab are different than the 37. I guess Revell thought it was close enough, lol Tom
Dr. Cranky Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Nice eye candy. Those rust-throughs look very good.
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 Thanks Tom, that panel of yours looks great man!! thanks cranky! i finally made it to the bench, i slept all day! LOL i had to catch up i didnt sleep for 3 nites.....ok time to do something. stay tuned bryan
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 I dont know how i did it, but i lost the grille for this truck!! i have a bunch of "bagged kits" i got them with no boxes, so maybe it was missing from the start. I cut out the grille shell, it was solid plstic where the chrome part mounted on it, so i hacked it away and sanded it, now ill make a new grille for it. thanks for lookin, more to come bryan
Dr. Cranky Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 That has potential for a new grill, maybe some mesh.
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 Yea cranky, i was thinkin mesh, ill have to put a verticle center bar so the mesh will have the right shape... more to come bryan
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 i dont have any mesh that is the right size, so i think ill add six verticle bars to the shell......stay tuned heres a sneak peek.... im not gonna go nuts with the rust holes, i added some to the right fender, im gonna make a patch panel on one of the door bottoms, and maybe the cab corners as well... heres the fender more to come bryan
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 so something like this....... only 6 bars in total. heres what im using to make the grille bars, i have no idea what they are, but i have a bunch of them. i got them from mike napoleon, ill have to ask him what the heck they are.... time to do the other 3......stay tuned. thanks for lookin cheers bryan
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 I just noticed that these rods i am using for the grille bars are hollow........they would be great for making hinges! bryan
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 thanks Jeremy! ok, the rest of the grille bars are installed, i didnt really think i would like it at first, but now i do. a couple of shots with the shell in place more to come, stay tuned cheers bryan

Dr. Cranky Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I like that grill, and I think once you paint it and rust it is going to look super cool. Keep it going . . .
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 thanks cranky! i didnt like it at first, but after i finished it i thought it looked ok.....there wasnt enuff room to get one more bar in on each side. i wish they would have fit. it would have looked a little better, but im happy with it. bryan
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 shot some primer on the fender unit, and the grille...... shot a little green on the engine as well. not the correct green, but close enuff. more to come, stay tuned, thanks for lookin! bryan
bryan_m Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 i finally hit it with some salt, and shot the light green on it..... sure is ugly aint it? and the grille..... i went a little heavier than i usually do with the salt, but i wanted alot of primer/rust showin thru..... thats all for now, ill let it dry a bit and knock the salt off with a wet toothbrush. thanks for lookin! Bryan
59 Impala Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 WOW Bryan, she's lookin really bad (I mean it in a nice way). Great so far. Me likes eye candy, rusty or shiny. Dan
Dr. Cranky Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Wow, can't wait to see the results of the salt reveal. More eye candy, please, sir.
DanielG Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Nice detailing. Are you going to have to fabricate the rad as well?
bryan_m Posted June 9, 2012 Author Posted June 9, 2012 thanks guys! stay tuned cranky, the salt will be comin off!! more to come bryan
bryan_m Posted June 9, 2012 Author Posted June 9, 2012 Daniel: ill just have to make the front of the rad, now that you can see through the grille. ill probably just cut one up from the parts box. ok, as promised cranky.........the salt is off! time to paint the running boards black, and then get started on the washes and powders. im also gonna cut basswood strips for the wooden floor in the bed.... thanks for lookin! bryan
