Qwit Pushin Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Just picked up 'City of Speed, Los Angeles and the Rise of American Racing' by Joe Scalzo and so far, it's a fantastic read! Covers the LA legends of the board tracks and Indy, speed pioneers at Bonneville, road racers and early dirt track heroes as well as many of the great engineering minds behind them. The book is loaded with great quotes and anecdotal, first-person accounts of those times. The writing style is very different, but makes for an even more compelling read. I highly recommend this one for anyone interested in early racing/speed history. Best $40 bucks I've spent in a while.
Art Laski Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Wow, that's cool. I just met Joe Scalzo at the Riverside International Automotive Museum at an event a couple of months ago. He wrote a sprint car book in the seventies called "Stand on the Gas" that my dad had, so I chatted with him about that. I had no idea he had this book out. Thanks for sharing. -Art
