GoatGuy Posted July 28, 2012 Author Posted July 28, 2012 Small update - the Mallory coils are painted and were glued on after this pic was taken. Anybody have any Mallory decals that would fit? The arm will be weathered and the glove finished and Simpson decals applied. Thanks for looking.
Mooneyzs Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Dave... hey what size are those Mallory Coils you have or how big is the area they need to fit on. I can take a look thru my decals if you'd like.
comp1839 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 very nice job on the coils dave. can't wait to see the arm when it's done. i remember the picture on the cover, of one of the magazines, with the charger and the fake arm on it. totally cool!
GoatGuy Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 Thanks John. Check for a PM. Chris- the area for the decal is .085". If you have any, that would be great. Dave- thanks. I have some updates. I found some Simpson decals the right size on a Slixx Nascar goodies sheet for the arm and also see the pic of the arm when it was up for auction recently. Now I just need to dirty it up.
GoatGuy Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 Updates - I extended the front frame, painted it, and added the bumper. I'm happy with the results. Any comments or ideas are welcome. I also added the front wheels. At some point I want to add the front brake lines but don't know where they run. In the shots I took of the Sentry Olds car, I can see they run somewhere under the chassis. Hopefully I can get back over there when it suits Bruce and get a few more pics. Thanks for looking.
comp1839 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 hey dave, sorry for not seeing your question earlier (again). the brake lines run inside the tube of the lower frame rail.
GoatGuy Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 Do the lines converge at a T and then one line goes into the frame rail and back to the master cylinder? Or do both lines go into the frame? Thanks for your help Dave. Bill, thanks for the encouragement. Love your work. The gaps that you can see in the frame extension were filled in with scrap styrene before painting.
comp1839 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Do the lines converge at a T and then one line goes into the frame rail and back to the master cylinder? yup. no problem.
GoatGuy Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Minor update - I dirtied up the fake arm by rubbing a little black wash on it and then rubbed some graphite from a 6B pencil on my fingers and put that on the arm. It stuck really good because I used flat white as a base. I also added some upper brackets for the wheelie bars, soon to be added. Thanks for looking.
John Teresi Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Dave.......the arm is the coolest.......great job
Mooneyzs Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I have to agree with John... The arm is totally cool!!
GoatGuy Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 Thanks guys. I appreciate your input. Barrel valves are next. My eyes will hopefully survive it. Maybe in 20 years I'll be doing work on your level of skill. I'll only be 78 then !
comp1839 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 hey dave, i had an opportunity to measure an enderle "k" style barrel valve over the weekend. would you like the pics? My eyes will hopefully survive it. hehe. i know that tune!
GoatGuy Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 Absolutely. Send the pics. I'd like to see if they match up to the 7" length (with fittings) that the guy at Enderle told me.
vintagedragfan Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 we are ready for some updates Dave !! very nice work too!!
GoatGuy Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks Bill, but how can I get much done with the US Nationals on ESPN2? I have been doing some engine plumbing. Hope to post some updates soon. What are you working on?
vintagedragfan Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 trying to make the intake now, good thing I don't have ESPN2 lol
GoatGuy Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 Intake for.......................what did I miss? I've been trying to follow too many builds.
GoatGuy Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 A couple minor updates. I made my first attempt at making a barrel valve. Got it painted and added some scrap photoetch pieces to the air scoop to hold both valves. I also have the brackets (top and bottom) to hold wheelie bars on. Now to make the wheelie bars like Ted showed in his video. Question to those who know - what is best to attach styrene to photoetch - super glue or epoxy?
John Teresi Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Dave.......nice work on the barrel......man,that must be tiny.....looking good!!!!!
TedsModeling Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) Anybody have any Mallory decals that would fit? Dave, I might have missed it, if someone else answered your question, Slixx has two Mallory decals .54" x .22" on their new 1/16 scale Drag Racing Contingency Sheet. I have them in stock. You're giving me the incentive to get back on my In-n-Out Funny Car. Dave - Great shot on the latching system. Never knew how they handled it. Edited September 23, 2012 by TedsModeling
vintagedragfan Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 small updates take alot of time, at least for me anyway, lol looks great Dave!
GoatGuy Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Ted- Chris is sending me some Mallory decals. They need to be small enough to put on the ignition coils. Thanks anyway. PLEASE DO get back to work on your funny car. Looking forward to more. After looking at the pics I took of Bruce Larson's Sentry Olds, I noticed a couple of frame braces that I wish I'd seen before I started. Oh well. Bill - thanks. The updates took time because of other stuff. We all suffer with that "other stuff" disease. I need to check the progress on your car. Thanks guys for the encouragement. Sidenote- I found an Epson printer at work that they are going to scrap and I cut the drive belt off. It's about a half inch wide and is ribbed. It cuts very clean and I'm making a blower belt for the funny car out of it.
