I've been building for nearly 40 years and there are 18 year olds who can out build me. The best advice I can give you is this;

1. Patience pays off. Take your time to do things right.

2. If you mess up don't sweat it, correct it, if it cannot be corrected, move on and learn from it.

3. The proper tools will always make things easier. Until you have all the tools you want/need, spend half your model budget on models, half on tools.

practice, practice, practice. get some cheap plastic signs( like for sale signs or something similar) shoot some primer on it then practice your technique. it can also be helpful to intentionaly mess up on your practice pieces. move your can or airbrush too close or too far, speed up or slow down your hand movement, spray some wd40 or other oil part of your practice piece then try to paint over it etc. buy doing this you will learn what causes paint problems and what you need to do to correct them. be aware that all can spray paints are not the same model master laquers for example come out of the can like a firehose so you'll have to change your hand speed always test on a scrap piece before your model. hope this helps.
