Johnny Racer Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 What is everyone's recommendation: Would you use primer on parts you intend to paint semi gloss black?
Mike Kucaba Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 My general rule is prime everything, even semi gloss or flat black benefit from it as I have had both appear blotchy without it.
Johnny Racer Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) Now stupid question... I am going to use Tamiya Semi Gloss Black on a chassis and leather interior and found a can of Testors Model Master White Primer laying around unused and was wondering if I could mix the two. I'm not thinking so since the Testors stuff says its an Enamel. Edited July 18, 2012 by Johnny Racer
LoneWolf15 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 What is everyone's recommendation: Would you use primer on parts you intend to paint semi gloss black? No , I don't . I use nothing but Testors semi gloss black enamel which is alot more forgiving than most when it comes to filling and smoothing . Putting primer underneath it is only an added thickness to the part's appearance . All of my parts are sanded up to a minimum of 1500 grit which is plenty smooth for frames , axles , shackles , etc . As for mixing the Testors with the Tamiya , I'd test it first on a plastic spoon . Hobby paints do not always get along with other manufactured brands .
