sak Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Has anybody had to thin the black alclad primer? This paint seems to dry fast over time. To a point where I cannot airbrush it at 15 psi like it sudgests. I am really not sure what it is. It says it is a lacqour , but it seems to behave more like an enamel. So what would I use lacqour thinner or mineral spirits? Jeff
Erik Smith Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I have never had to thin it. I have had some clumping issues of not shaken well enough though. I believe it is an enamel - Alclad Laqcuer is just in the name.
my80malibu Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 The fact that you say it dries fast would indicate it is a Laqcuer based product enamels usually dry in days to weeks sometimes before drying I would recommend using the Laqcuer based for thinning
sak Posted August 1, 2012 Author Posted August 1, 2012 When I say it dries fast..I mean that a skin should not develope in a sealed bottle in less than a few months. When it is applied however..it still stays tacky for days it seems. I really need to find a decent gloss black enamel in a big can. But I can't tell if something is pure enamel. Some cans say enamel but I have read that they are actually acrylic enamel.

I bought some alclad, but havent used it yet.Ive talked to people about it and I understand it works better over tacky paint.Maybe thats why it takes forever to dry?
