rmvw guy Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Just finished, box stock with a little road rash. Fun build, thanks for looking, as always leave comments good or bad.
Sam Cates Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Very nice, you did an excellent job with the details, I love these old service trucks!
rmvw guy Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Thanks Sam, I just noticed the grill is a little too shiny compared to the rest, I'll have to nock that down some. I never seem to get the engine shots to focus clear with my camera either.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Man, talk about a beautiful daily driver. The grime and dirt are nice and subtle on this one. Excellent weathering. Love it.
Guest Johnny Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 That is cool and a flashback to the first gas station I worked at! A TEXICO!!! They had a 52 for a wrecker. The boom mounted in the factory truck bed! Same old green and black fenders. (but a whole lot rustier ) The only thing really different was the grill was painted off white!
rmvw guy Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Thanks Doc, I appreciate it! Thanks also Johnny, the thought crossed my mind to paint the grill white, now I wish I had.
AlbertS Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 You did a really nice job. What did you use for the pickup bed?
Miatatom Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Nice job! This model is on my list of future builds.
Randy D Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Hi Ron, Sweet looking truck!!! Really like the shiniy paint with a little 'wear and tear' Randy
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 That's a beaut. Love everything about it.
rmvw guy Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 You did a really nice job. What did you use for the pickup bed? I painted the bed boards first with Testors yellow enamel then dry brushed it with Testors brown. I made two attempts with bare metal foil then decided I liked the silver strips better. I assume that answers your question, unless you are just wanting to know where the bed came from, if that's the case it was the stock bed.
ChrisR Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Great model and as you said the chrome should just be toned down a bit to fit in with the used look!
rmvw guy Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 Thanks again! I need some ideas of items to put in the bed for road service if anyone has some, please leave comments.
AlbertS Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 No, you got it. I meant the bed finish. I also like the covering on the seat.
Ramfins59 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Thanks again! I need some ideas of items to put in the bed for road service if anyone has some, please leave comments. Great job on this model. I'd say to throw in maybe a couple of gas cans, oil cans, a tool box, a tire iron, a floor jack and maybe a couple of used wheels & tires. You don't have to add all of that stuff, but I personally like a lot of detailed items.
Shardik Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Very nice, I love working trucks. The seats, the weathering, the wood; all very cool, but what got my attention was the hose clamps. Superb, period correct, detail. What gauge wire did you use for them?
rmvw guy Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 Very nice, I love working trucks. The seats, the weathering, the wood; all very cool, but what got my attention was the hose clamps. Superb, period correct, detail. What gauge wire did you use for them? I used 26 gauge bead wire on the clamps, wrapped it around a toothpick and cut it to size. I'm surprised you noticed it with the poor quality of the close ups.
rmvw guy Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 Great model and as you said the chrome should just be toned down a bit to fit in with the used look! I got a little mud on the grill, still working on this a little more.
Shardik Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I used 26 gauge bead wire on the clamps, wrapped it around a toothpick and cut it to size. I'm surprised you noticed it with the poor quality of the close ups. They show up better in the chassis shot without the body on .
