Custom Mike Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Beautiful truck Ron, nice and used! And the bed looks great, it's hard to believe that's the kit part and not real wood!
rmvw guy Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Beautiful truck Ron, nice and used! And the bed looks great, it's hard to believe that's the kit part and not real wood! Thanks Mike! That's just what I needed was some encouragement right now. I just returned from my club feeling kind of discouraged. One of the guys said it was the wrong color green and it needed bmf in the bed. Another guy said I could use it to pull a wide load with the front bumper. Then we had a discussion about baldness and what causes it. (I'm bald!) Why am I here? I love this Forum, it's what the Doctor ordered! Thanks again to all.
Custom Mike Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 One thing I've learned after attending a bunch of contests is that some guys, when presented with something they couldn't do themselves, find a way to bash it. Sounds like you kicked their butts, and the only reply they have is to tear down what they can't accomplish!
Miatatom Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks Mike! That's just what I needed was some encouragement right now. I just returned from my club feeling kind of discouraged. Differences of opinion are just that, opinions, and like hind parts, everyone's got one and some stink. I like the way you did it. The BMF would be too shiny. The green looks fine to me.
rmvw guy Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks for the encouragement Mike and Tom, it means a lot. Maybe I can sleep now.
slusher Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Nice work on your truck, weathering is excellent and not over done...
Jim B Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Fantastic job. It's a beautiful piece of work; and a work truck at that.
Shardik Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 From one bald guy to another, tell them to watch out for bears. (Biblical ref.)
rmvw guy Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks for all the comments, I appreciate every one of them.
Harry P. Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I love it. Beautiful model, very nicely done. I do agree that you need a little clutter in the bed, but that's easy enough to add. Very nice job!
rmvw guy Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks Harry, I'm still working on some items for the bed. A couple of things about this kit made me think of you, it does have a generator bracket and it does have valve stems! I would like to add tailgate chains and an inside rear view mirror. There seems to be a shortage of rear views in the kits lately.

Longbox55 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Looks good to me, Ron. As far as those skid strips go, they are available for the 1:1 trucks in unpolished stainless from Mar-K, which looks virtually identical to what you've done. BTW, the rear and right side mirrors were optional on the 1:1. Only the drivers side mirror was standard.
rmvw guy Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 Here's what I did with some of the left over decals from the '50.
rmvw guy Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 The pair of them together. I got ahold of some resin oil cans and jack stands in the back of the '50, still need paint and some little Texaco decals.
Gluhead Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Ron, I thought the '50 was pretty nice, but I gotta say that wrecker came out really cool.
rmvw guy Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 Thanks guys, I'm trying to decide weather to post the wrecker separate, after all it is more or less a Snap-Kit with very little detail. I've got plans to use more decals on it and take more pictures of the interior etc. I think it looks good on the shelf and if I ever get a hold of the Texaco decals for my "Joe's Power Plus" station. (it was suppose to be a Texaco when I ordered it). I'm thinking diorama maybe.
