Is this the end?

Recommended Posts

Oh probably, NASCAR knows it killed the Cup/Nationwide/truck series and those will soon be dead, they need another series to keep queen Brian France in the money.

Its also the end of SPEED channel as well, its going to be some sad times for us motorsports fans over the next few years

But least now the stock in NASCAR means something for the first time in 30-40 years

Good lord, what the heck happend to IMSA and the creativity? I think we all know the end result if "NASTYCAR" takes over. I get it that they are fan based, but for real car guys, the diversity and creativity makes the show. I went to the Can-Ams at Laguna seca for years, and it was all about the creativity, and the driver skills. I watched John Cannon win with an outdated car in the rain,Bruce and Denny battle it out, Peter Revson crash with a dominant car, the insane Chaparral 2J, and the epic fail of the 2H. If nascar has a sick hand in all of this, the only things we'll see is different "wraps". I do not like wraps, I prefer sprayed on paint with hand lettering. But Im prejudiced, I owned a sign shop before signs became just vinyl decals.

They are several plus's for using wraps, and wraps are becoming very popular outside the racing world, but one, wraps weigh a lot less then paint does, and weight and speed are like oil and water, its cheaper to wrap a car then paint it. And in this new era of racing where teams have more then one primary sponsor , it make's sense.

Heck, even police dept's are using wraps now to help the resale value

You do know that wraping a race car is not just limited to NASCAR right?

Being a fellow sign painter, I understand Glenn's statement. The average person would never understand how hideous wraps are to guys like us. Sign programs have ruined the sign industry as badly as the France family has ruined Nascar. Do wraps have a place and purpose, absolutely. Are about 90% of them poorly to very poorly designed, absolutely.

If NASCAR has a hand in it,you can count on it being the end. They will ruin it just like they have ruined NASCAR. The only thing that will be left for us to watch will be the Australian V-8 Supercars. Those guys have it right! Hopefully, they will never allow the France enterprise nowhere near them.

Gah, I'm not a sign painter, But I still agree with you two 110%! I hate those stickers with a passion too, they just look horrible! Saw a rebodied Fiero that would have looked good if it were painted and not wrapped (especially like that, Steie Wonder could have chosen better graphics) and that dang wrap ruined it.

Geez guys/galz!...Go back to building models!...not bickering over stupid stuff!

Nascar use to be (for most of us that remember) the following

Nascar Winston Cup....till Winston pulled it do to financial matters based from the tobacco news we all remember!

Nascar Bush Grand National....till Anhauser bush pulled or expired the contract ...for some reason or another....

Nascar Craftsman Trucks....Craftsman as we known to be made in America....till they shipped jobs over seas and we see that stuff "Made in China" now....they pulled i think due to financial reasons to (correct me if im wrong)

SO STOP THE BICKERING!....times have changed ...what worked 5 years ago does not work today in today's market!...so things must change to stay up to date....and if that means le mans and (cant remember who else) that has to merge then yes it has to happen....who knows it may be alot better now then it use to be?...why dont you give it a chance before you start slamming things?....GET BACK TO BUILDING NUMBNUTS!

Agreed, but some people love to complain and whine about things. I really dont think the Rolex series has changed all that much, but I am not a die hard follower so I could be wrong

Hey Joe, I appreciate the understanding. Some of us are old school, and also I am grumpy, and resist change at every possible opportunity! That might explain my affinity for Trophy Series kits and wire axles :D I guess in a new millenium, the good old days of the "Car of Tomorrow" , IRL with "power to pass", and F-1 with treaded tires will be remembered fondly. I can picture it in my mind...."Hey Fred, do ya remember when Sprint ditched NASCAR, and it became the "Hello Kitty-Shanghai Maple-Bank of China Cup? And when Bill France XVlll mandated front wheel drive and 50 mpg?"   ( tongue in cheek )

It will be interesting to see what happens... I follow both series today..the TV coverage could stand to improve. I'd like to go to one of the big 12- or 24- events, but need to train to get in shape for it...going to 2-3 hour races is exhausting enough.

I try and follow Nationwide, NASCAR, F1, Indy Car, Grand Am, and ALMS....I've loosely followed V8 Supercars, WRC, DTM and World Tour Cars but the US TV coverage is nonexistent or very weak for those series.. :( I've managed to go to 4 races so far this year (NASCAR here in Phoenix, Indy Car at Long Beach, Indianapolis, and Sonoma) and have 2 more to go this year (Indy Car at Fontana, NASCAR at Phoenix again). I hope to get in F1, and a Grand Am or ALMS race next year.
