deuces wild
11 hours ago, Russell C said: So I'm reneging on the excuse I had last October when I put the potential project I photo-altered (along with a Gasser Angla coupe idea, basically just relocating the headlights into a much less frog-eyed location) into my concept illustrations thread because I didn't think I could find the time for it. Also seemed like every buildup / unassembled Thames panel on eBay was always $30 or way higher outside my poor man's budget, and the vibrant color I prefer was in the more pricey 1969-ish version. I'm lazy these days and would rather just polish the plastic than paint a body. However, this one showed up two weeks ago, and I was the only eBay bidder at $20 + shipping. Score! Arrived in the mail this afternoon, the only item missing is a door handle. The chassis / engine is close to being a glue bomb wreck (the front axle is really messed up), but the body is surprisingly free of any glue smears, which is all I need for the relocated headlights street rod project idea I have that'll be getting a different street legal chassis / drive train / engine. Nice box art....🙂👍
Ace-Garageguy
Blew out most of the workday at the banks and lawyers, so I snukkded by one of the flea markets on the way home. Found a few more really cheap HO scale things that needed rescuing, plus a sealed Lindberg '34 Ford pickup and a started-but-not-ruined Monogram '66 Shelby GT350...both for ten bucks. Hard to walk away from a deal like that, especially because an SCCA Solo Mustang is on my project list, as well as a '32 Ford pickup. The '34 cab is very close to a '32, easily converted.
Horrorshow
Monogram ‘59 Impala…lots of chrome trim, maybe try Revell chrome spray instead of BMF. Can’t wait to get started!

If you mean the condition of the 1969 box that came with the buildup, it is in amazingly good clean condition. If you mean my box art alteration in my separate thread on altered photos of projects I could do if I had more time / money, thanks, too. While waiting for the buildup to arrive in the mail, I did one more alteration to the newer version box art, to horizontally section the body at the belt line and bring the top area down to a level just above the rear fender tops. Theoretically doable on the model itself, but I'm not sure I can seamlessly pull that off since I plan to just polish the plastic instead of paint the body. It would be a bit dicey at the front hood area ...
89AKurt
Ignoring that I did not receive it today (or this month come to think of it) the Pontiac GTO, and got the resin Vivant model some time ago...... the one-off has a Pontiac engine, reason it's now in the stash. The real car has one carb, so that's the first fork in the road. My plan is to cut up the chassis to fit, hollowing out the body some, I can't have another curbside. 😂
Bainford
Just received this 1/24 Merit Lotus XI for a reasonable price considering it's a pristine, unbuilt, 68 year old kit in a presentable box. Been looking for a decent one for some time. Seller had it listed as 1/32 scale Lotus VI. Check out the tiny box. The Tamiya box used for comparison is itself a small box. A modeler named mike
By way of mail today. It wasn't on my list but it caught my eye and the rest is history, as they say. I've always liked the styles of some of the smaller vehicles across the pond. 🤔 my list may have just got a little longer..
Bainford
23 minutes ago, absmiami said: Bainford - is this your first Merit purchase ? Careful - they are addicting … I believe you're right. I have a more recent SMER issue of the Talbot Lago which is also pretty cool. The seller of the XI also had a built/complete Merit Scarab which I wanted, but ebay's new international shipping policy doesn't allow for combined shipping (apparently) and shipping one kit to Canada is too much already. I thought the Scarab might be a good starting point for a Lotus 23 build.

To the best of my knowledge, Merit never made any Scarab. Monogram did the mid-engined 1/24 version based on their slotcar hardbody, and MPC did the 1/24 front-engine hardbody slot. There's also a Strombecker 1/24 version. I have them all. Edited August 1 by Ace-Garageguy 2

Ebay seems to be doing everything humanly possible to ruin their business by trying to wring every last cent out of every sale, and penalize their exemplary decades-loyal customers for all the deadbeats. I'm closer to being done with them after every transaction.

Bainford
13 minutes ago, Ace-Garageguy said: I'm closer to being done with them after every transaction. Yeah, me too. I buy very little on ebay now. International shipping is already a killer. Now, no matter how good the original selling price may be, it's no longer a deal when it gets here. Combined shipping was a way to help mitigate those costs, but no more. On top of that, ebay's preferred international shipper is DHL which, like UPS, always tacks on $30-40 in extra fees by the time it gets here (in addition to the already agreed upon shipping price). Why the heck am I paying duty on an ancient, used model kit that wasn't even manufactured in the US in the first place, and then they tack on a $10 customs fee for the privilege of doing so. Yeah, I'm about fed up. Edited August 1 by Bainford 1
37 caddy
I second the hate for Ebay,it used to be a great place to find the wierd and unusual stuff, they wanted a piece of the shipping and when they did it was ruined,i live in Canada and cant afford the shipping tactics they use. Wish it was like before when the sellers would work with you and try and help out,now they cant becaause it is all done with the company shipping.

Yeah, I'm about fed up. I live in Canada as well and DHL is ripping people off with the import/duty tax!,i've gotten emails from them over my last few transactions saying i owe $15 dollars for tax/import fees. You have the choice not to pay it til it reaches your city, which i've done and both times the parcel showed up on my door,no delivery notice saying i had to pick my parcel at the post office the next business because a fee is owing.I agree no combined shipping is just a killer for me as well,i've passed on buying items just for that reason, thankfully not all sellers use that nonsense!!.
A modeler named mike
I've only bought 213 items from ebay since joining June 06 2020 and have only had a few issues. One item never showed and had no tracking, I was refunded the full amount. Another time I had not paid attention to the description which was in metric, my bad. Other than those two issues I've had partial refunds which I didn't ask for due to missing parts that I had alerted the seller to, informing the seller that I was OK with the deal and no refund was needed. Yes I will agree that the shipping cost have gone up but what hasn't in the past few years. I've only bought overseas a few times but from reputable sellers with excellent feedback. Ebay to me is all about finding the best deal that you can since the nearest hobby center, Hobby Lobby is over 30 min away and pretty much has what I already have in my stash.. very disappointing and a waste of my time. HomerS
Saw this on a resale shop FB page so sent the teenager to get it for me when they opened this a.m. Sealed inside and complete. Only box issue is someone used the box lid to wipe white paint from a brush. While there he grabbed the Lambo kit for himself. Sealed inside and complete.....pre bar code era. I'm pushing him to build it without the wheel flares and the non-five hole wheels. Most kits don't have the body without the flares.
