What did you get today? (Model Car Related Items)

This appeared on the shelf at my local Hobbytown earlier this summer still factory sealed. I didn’t have the money to buy it at the time so when I went back for it a few days later it was gone. It reappeared again about a week or so ago and this time I was able to snatch it up. I texted a picture of it to my twentysomething twin sons asking if they could spot the error and one of them got it right! I was happy to know they retained some of the knowledge from all the years of teaching them at all the car shows we attended.

I was working in a hobby wholesaler, when these came out. The two cases I bought never paid off!? I actually only bought a couple of kits. They're still pretty reasonable, on Ebay.

It's a slow rainy Labor Day so I'm going through some things I've gotten in the last couple months. A while back I asked if anyone had ordered from Scale Hobbyist. Many months ago I asked them to let me know if they got this kit back in stock and they notified me. Here it is, a Mitubishi Starion, one of my favorite cars from Cannonball Run 2. Sure wish someone did a 1/24th Subaru GL hatchback, too! The Scale Hobbyist order got here in less than about a week, well packaged in a box not a bag, and in perfect condition. I have no hesitation about ordering from them again.

Next up is a pair from Lionheart Hobbies, a Bronco Dune Buggy kit, and a Subaru Sambar van.

I also have a couple of Walmart or Hobby Lobby kits. The Celica and a 1980 Bronco. I built that Bronco as a kid and I'll be trying to build it again with hopefully a little more skil this time.

Finally, a bit of a mystery. I came across this Firebird shell and have no idea where I got it. It's missing the chrome, glass and everything else. I put it in the tub of Purple Clean and it took off the thick brush painted Testor's blue leaving a good body. Now all I need to do is find some chrome parts and one of the rereleased MPC Trans Ams for the rest!

I've just got a couple or transkits off ebay seller  diolex.

One is a Hellcat Widebody for the AMT Challenger and the other for the Tamiya Mustang kit.

Both are excellent quality and arrived promptly and well packed.

Looks like you have Mpc's 1976 firebird Formula judging by the hood.

Another PMC '59 Ranchero, cheap-ish because...

I'd like to transplant the good stuff from it to the red styrene one I got a while back:

Swapped in the chassis, front bumper/grille, interior and glass from the promo and gave it what Scott at Cold War Motors would call a "Level 1 Tidy". Luckily the interior isn't nearly as shrunken/warped as the promo body was:

Those wheelcovers will need some trimming to fit into the tires properly.

Got back from visiting my parents for a week to find these waiting for me. The Mazda was just $14 delivered! Got to figure out what front clip might look good on that 49 Ford.

If nothing else, that Mazda nose would look good on an RX7! Also, where did you find the RX3? That's one of my favorite cars

Wheels from Kyiv. The DB5 ones are going on the Revell kit along with the grille. The GTO wheels are actually for something else, and the Mercredes SLR wheels are an upgrade to the wheels in the old Merit Mercedes 196 F1 kit.

'bay bargain. Spotted this 911SC rally  with 15 minutes to go and no takers at a starting bid of £40. Which I won it for. Turns out that these are made to order and usually run about €200, so price-wise it was a bargain, and the quality and detail is VERY impressive. Decals for the colorful scheme of the most successful team rallying Porsches look very nice, too...

best,

M.
