Closing on having a complete, unbuilt set of the old Merit historic racing car kits...the plan being to upgrade them when built with hand-laced wires using Plastheniker's method (thank the dogs that these photos weren't hosted on peebucket.

These look sweet!!......the red one looks just like the SMER kit I just bought....never heard of them, and I always wanted to do an open wheel from this era, so I bought it. To me it doesn't look too bad, and has possibilities, but its outta my "Normal" type of build, so I'm far from an expert.

Far as I know, the only Merit kits to have gone to SMER were the Talbot-Lago, and the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GP cars.

Both of them have engines, and though somewhat simplified, have the potential to make outstanding models.

The little Cooper F3 car has an engine peeking out of the rear bodywork too.

And as far as I remember, the rest of the Merit line are curbsides. There is an Aston Martin DB 3S kit that I believe went on to become a Palmer model, and I think the Ferrari in the line became a Strombecker slot-car body.

In the Merit line, I'm missing the Lotus 11, and the Ferrari...though I have a decent Strombecker version.

Herb Deeks did a resin repop of the Cooper years ago with added white metal and photoetch parts. Was really a nice kit. Unfortunately the one I had was in the bunch of models I had stolen a couple of years ago.

I went to Hobby Lobby today to find lots of empty slots where boxed up model cars should be. I grabbed one of the recently issued MPC Tom McEwen 'Hot Wheels' rear engine dragster kits (using my 40% off coupon) and as I suspected it's a repop of the "Blue Streak' and 'Brute Force' kits minted in the '80s. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. They added a corrected blower scoop (original one still on the chrome tree), a fourth front wire wheel (without the weights), mid car wings and new rear wing supports. Those of you who are sticklers or accuracy will most likely be disappointed in the typical MPC lack of accuracy as compared to the 1:1 car...it's all 'parts' to me!!! -RRR

I went by the local Hobby Lobby, and picked up a couple cans of Testors' Lacquer, and a '65 Grand Prix and '80 Volare' on the clearance table for $6. and some change each. The pad printed tires I both of those was worth the price of admission, and I will build both of those eventually. I had no particular intention of purchasing either kit, but at that price, why not? Besides, I got the 40% off of one of the cans of paint, which I need for a project.

I totally agree, I have the Alfa Romeo, and its engine had more to it than I expected......very "doable". I took the kit tyres out of my Jaguar XKSS kit, and they fit pretty BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH good. Recreating a functional front grill on the other hand, is gonna take some thought.

Been looking high & low for an affordable MPC '66 Dodge Monaco & while this model & the word "affordable" do not play well together, I finally managed to find a half way decent builder for less than $100.00.

The body, hood & interior are in great shape, just on the ugly side.

There are a few other issues & some parts that I would like to find, so if anyone would happen to have some spare parts for a '66, let me know. ;)

Cool! Looking forward to seeing you do your magic with it. I imagine larger headlights are the first order of business? :)

First order of business will be finding a few parts.

I would really like to find a set of stock wheels, (although I know that's unlikely), a correct rear bumper, (this one has a '65 bumper) and probably a rear window.

I can work with the incorrect engine & chassis parts that came with the kit, and the a fore mentioned parts can be worked with, but I will bide my time and see what I can dig up.

I might have a set of the Spinner hubcaps from the 1966 Charger if those would work ?

Thank you Bill!

I have another member searching his stash for the Monaco wheels as we speak.

If it turns out to be a no-go, I will surely get back to you.

As far as I can tell, the Monaco & Charger wheels were one & the same in '66.

If you could post or PM me a photo of the Charger wheels, I would know for sure.

Yep, it is a simple little build and goes together nicely.

Brought a few items back from NNL Nationals yesterday, the first one was a Union kit of a Alpine A210 in 1/24th. I just thought the body style looked great. The other 2 are Johan AMX and a 2 tone Pontiac

The Strombecker D50 Lancia Ferrari and their 250 F Maser are bigger than the Merits. More 1/24-1/24.5. Same with Strombecker Benz W196. Really nice lines, I have Merits of same, close, but smaller. Merit D50 plan is for early full pannier tank car, doubt I'll get to them. If you guys throw engine in D50 be sure engine is 15 degrees or so across car, Detail pic search is crucial.

What's the deal on the JoHan models? Are these new kits? Or they something from a few years back? And are the prices on the boxes, what you paid for them?

The 2 tone Pontiac I bought from Okey, he only had two of them and yes  $30 was the price,.... The AMX is a USA oldies minus the engine but with an opening hood , engine plug molded into frame.and came with red wall tires, I bought it from another vendor for $33.
