What's up with that?  They have lots of cool subjects but missed out on the right scale. What were they thinking? LOL

Kit Form Services in the UK does a pretty big range of 1/24 resin military trucks and vehicles, including some really cool stuff like the Saladin armored car and Stalwart.  Also 1/24 resin trans-kits for vintage British and American big trucks, like Atkinsons and early Macks. Bring lots of $$$!

I've never seen a good answer for why 1/35 became the standard military scale.  In prehistoric times (the 70s), Bandai and Tamiya did military kits in all sorts of weird scales, like 1/30 and 1/21.  One story says that 1/35 started out as a "box scale" for Tamiya, and everybody else just followed suit, like Italeri. Most of the early Monogram military kits were in 1/35 scale.  Maybe just from luck.  To confuse us further, some of those kits were later released with 1/32 scale on the box (the M-48 tank and Jeep).  But some Monogram kits really were 1/32, like the Lee/Grant, Sherman and the German armor kits.

Finally sprung for the HRM / VRM Cheetah coupe. All I can say is that so far, it looks to be among the best quality resin anything I've ever seen. Whoever did the tooling knew what he was doing, and had the caring, talent and skill to put it all together. The decals are gorgeous too. I've been impressed with everything I've bought that was made by HRM, and this is no exception.

Thanks. I will have to check them out. I had a Testors WWII Dodge ambulance (think M*A*SH) that I sold because it wasn't 1:24, 1:25 scale. Been kicking myself ever since. I have never seen another & as far as I know its never been reissued after I sold it. :(

I bought a pretty decent die-cast Power Wagon in civilian garb recently, pretty cheap, to do a military truck from. Just a thought. The ambulance body should be fairly easy to scratch.

That WC-54 Dodge Ambulance has been re-issued many times.  Italeri has re-issued it several times, most recently as a "Limited Edition."  (They jacked up the price on those.)  It was first released back in the 1970's by the Japanese company Peerless-Max.  The Czech company Bilek re-issued it a few years ago as a radio truck, with a resin antenna mount.  I just checked on eBay and they're available.  Just be patient and don't pay collector prices.

Here's an article on the kit and a build-up that fixed the errors.

Thanks! Its good to know its out there. I don't check the military stuff very often so I probably just missed out, and I have only check Ebay a couple of times years ago. I now have an urge to again hunt 1 down.

My second favorite car after the Cobra. I hope you find the time to build some of this cool stuff you are collecting.

Just trying to get the collection filled with things I really want while I'm still drawing a decent paycheck. Several things I've acquired lately I haven't even seen for years, and I figured they won't be getting any cheaper, so why not? My luck, I'll die shortly after retiring, and all my stuff will be on Ebay again anyway. But at least the people responsible for liquidating my estate understand the values. Still, maybe I ought to put dollar amounts on every box...  ;)

Me too. Love that Cheetah. Its on my list to pick up as well. And his Cobra roadster as well.

Just in today, Plamoz Shelby GT500 wheels. These things are beautiful. Almost have everything I need for the build.

I'm kinda new into resin. I have a few older kits that are marginal quality at best, and I wasn't terribly impressed in general. But after seeing some of the fantastic stuff that's available in historic race cars, I may have to keep working at least another year to be able to afford everything I want. It's an addiction, a disease. Make me stop...

I bought three or four of those (the WC-53 version, IIRC) at close-out prices back in the late '70s. About 20 years ago I ran into a guy who wanted one BAD, and had been looking for one for a LONG time. All he had to trade was "an old Mustang" that turned out to be a mint, unbuilt, new in box AMT Sonny and Cher Mustang. We both walked away from the swap very, VERY happy.....B)

In today's mail I got Revell's '57 Chevy Black Widow 2'n1 kit. My plans are to take the fuel injection setup from that kit and instal it in Revell's '57 Chevy Convertible I got a week or two ago. I'll then build the Black Widow as a standard 150 Utility Sedan with the stock single carburetor setup.

Hey?! I just opened my '57 Chevy Black Widow kit. And guess what? It's got the '57 Bel Air 2-door post body in the kit. Not the 150! I'm not happy with that. Time to contact Revell, and get a correct body.

I picked up the AMT '57 Ford Hardtop today at Hobby Lobby.

I was thinking about the 57 Chevy Black Widow, but all the kits they had seemed to have damaged boxes, like maybe they were packed wrong. Plus for some reason I was thinking I wanted to build something for the next Moonlight Modellers club meeting which is 40's and 50's Fords and Mopars. Probably won't build it in time, but I've been wanting it anyway. I am a fool for all the old AMT reissues.

Picked this up on eBay. It has been on my "want list" for a while. I just hadn't seen one priced as reasonably as I thought it could be. Got this one for a song.

Today I went to the Freetime Hobbies open house/model contest in Blue Ridge, GA.  If you're ever in the area, that's an awesome store.  Literally a warehouse full of model kits and supplies.  They recently changed their hours. The store is ONLY open the second weekend of each month.  Next open house day is Nov. 11 2017.

I got some supplies, a Revell '66 Suburban and some off-topic 1/35 armor kits (including the Trumpeter SA-4 Ganef SAM missile tracked carrier, which looks like it should be in a Godzilla movie).  And I couldn't resist this Greenlight die-cast 1/24 Shasta Airflyte trailer, with full interior. It would look good behind that Suburban, and it was on sale at a good price:

Made a US run today. Picked up a couple parcels at my sister's and hit up Hobby Lobby. The shelves were pretty bare. Most of the kits they had, they only had one of. Vallejo paints were the same. One of each that they did have in stock. Starting to wonder if maybe this location is closing up?

Anyways, AMT Goodyear tire pack from Ebay. AMT Camaro and some Vallejo paints and a fresh bottle of Tamiya cement from Hobby Lobby.

The Camaro is a really nice kit. Now, Revell, time to counter with a new Mustang.

Thanks to cobraman (Ray Kurn), I've just about completed a full set of the old Merit 1/24 sports and GP cars. Ray noticed I'd said I was lacking the Lotus XI, and was kind enough to notify me when he saw one come up on Ebay. The kit is a little more interesting than just a straight Merit offering, though. The body shell is indeed Merit, but the rest of it is a resin reproduction, made by none other than Tom Coolidge. The repop parts are absolutely beautiful, and it all came in the original postmarked-1995 box, straight from Mr. Coolidge. A nice little piece of car-modeling history. Thanks again, Ray.    :D

This is what the mailman brought to me yesterday, wins from a live auction group I'm in on Facebook, and all of the older kits in the front are all still factory sealed originals. The Type K Sportwagon is one of my "Holy Grail" kits!

That one's a little tricky as it seems like it shouldn't be as expensive as they sell for, but the tooling was modified to make the GTX, so unless Revell were going to back date the kit to it's origins, there's only so many of those left in the world.

that being said this kit is a 71' Roadrunner without the markings .............. to bad Monogram did not have the rights to warner bros at the time this kit was made ?
