sjordan2 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 What gauge and source would you recommend for 1/16 spark plug wire? Thanks.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 A lot of plug wires are 8mm. Divide by 16 to get .5mm, or .019685", .020" close enough. 24 gauge. Soft craft-beading wire is available in this size at Hobby Lobby, etc. in various colors. Insulated electronics wire in 24 gauge (gage) will have an OD probably of around .033, (so for exact scale-correctness needs to be stripped and painted) and can be found in multi-conductor phone and data cable. Radio Shack (maybe) and other electronics supply stores will have it, but remember the gage size refers to the diameter of the conductor and not the OD of the insulation. Some high performance plug wires are fatter than 8mm, and old ones on vintage cars are thinner.
blunc Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 (edited) Yeah, what Bill said. Digikey and Mouser can supply also if you don't mind mailorder, they have various gages and colors, sometimes referred to as wrap or wire-wrap. Edited December 4, 2012 by blunc
