slammedi'am Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I was wondering if there is a tip or a special trick for old decals...normally I put them on then clear coat em but I dont know if it will work right with older decals...Any hep will be appreciated
Guest Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 If you have doubts about them, brush a coat of Future over them (be sure to cover the edges well also) before you shoot the clear. It works very well for me.
Chief Joseph Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) With an old decal sheet, the challenge is getting them off the sheet and onto the model. The lacquer ink has a tendency to crack when it gets old, and the decals can shatter into pieces when they're soaked in water. Painting a coat of Microscale Decal Film or Future onto the decal sheet before using them will greatly increase your chances of getting the decals onto the model in one piece. Once the decals are fully dried on the model, age doesn't matter-- use the same clear coat you'd use for brand-new decals. As plowboy said, you can paint a coat of Future over the dried decals before clearcoating the model. That will help prevent damage from a hot clear lacquer. Hope this helps Edited December 31, 2012 by Chief Joseph
