I see people interchanging the two (LS / LSX) all the time. if I understood the info I have seen, NO GM car has come with an LSX. This correct because the LSX is only sold as a create engine and can be bored and stroked to over 525 cid I did find more info on the LSX stating it could be bored and stroked to over 500 cid Edited June 5, 2013 by thom hoos

The term LSx where the "x" is a variable meant to represent the different number and letter variations (1,2,3,6,7,9,A, etc.) was widely in use long before GMPP put out the iron block crate motor known as the LSX. Are they interchangeable? No. Are they both commonly accepted? Yes.
