1950' Saltflats Tire Suggestions

In the quest to have to many projects going at the same time I have added a new project.

I'm replicating a 50's era 32 Ford saltflats racer but not a dedicated race car, more of a driver/weekend racer. But the problem that I have is that I don't have anything in the parts box to use for tires. These would be mounted on steelwheels and

be fairly skinny.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

O-rings? It's possible that an enterprising and resourceful hot rodder could have scored some aircraft tires back then......

If you have a Dremel, and some firestone tires that come in the 50's 60's car kits (year of the cars not the age of the kits) you can create your own by useing razorblades and files to shave the sidewalls to a much rounder form and shave down the tread, wear eye protection though.

I've seen rubber o-rings used before and they look great. Any decent hardware store has an assortment behind the counter, bring your wheels and match some up.

The whole west coast hot rod thing was originally fed with military surplus goodies, not sure that any tire would be suitable for salt flats racing. I have no idea where they got them from.

All great suggestions but I'm looking for more of a skinny treaded tire that

a low-buck weekend racer would have used, probably the same tire that he

drove to the flats on
