glenboy23 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Greetings, I'm Glen and at the ripe old age of 59, I've decided to start building models again, which I last did when I was about 12-14. After completing a couple of kits, I've realized that age hasn't improved my skills, just my expectations for the results. I've picked up a lot from reading forums and the magazines, but I need lots more practice. So far I've been mostly interested in classic muscle cars. I know I'm going to have questions from all you experts. Is the General forum the place where I should post them?
Swamp Dog Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 welcome to the forum Glen..ask your questions at Model Building Questions and Answers..their are a lot of great builders here that can answer any question u have...
JunkPile Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Welcome Glen. There is tons just waiting to be learned in the pages of this forum. There are only a couple of experts here, the rest of us are just guys (and a couple girls) trying to enjoy the hobby to the fullest. Enjoy your stay.
Union Modelworks Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) Hey Glen, Good to see a fellow San Diegan on here. If you haven't already, check out the local IPMS clubs. There is http://www.ipmssd.org/, which is all model types, and http://www.sdmodelcarclub.org/, which is strictly autos. Both are great clubs to join for questions and feedback. Anyhow, I'm new here too, but welcome. Edited July 24, 2013 by Union Modelworks
glenboy23 Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 Thanks. I picked up a flyer on the local club from Discount Hobby Warehouse but haven't followed up.
Tom Geiger Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Hi Glen, follow the forums, join a local club and you will see your modeling skills soar! The difference is the techniques and tricks people will teach you that you just never figured out on your own. I know that was my experience!
PappyD340 Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Welcome Glen, to the best forum on the web. I have a neice and her husband live in San Diego, he is a Marine Colonel / fighter pilot Semper Fi
Draggon Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Welcome Glen. I'm Glenn, I'm also 59, and on the west coast too. Pretty funny.
glenboy23 Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Thanks everyone. San Diego's got great weather, but mostly low paying jobs, expensive houses, high gas and energy prices, limited mass transit. Yikes, don't get me started!
