Airfix Mini WRC 1/32

Cool build! My father was in the US military and we lived in Germany from 1969-72. Those old Airfix 1/32 cars are near and dear to me since that was what was available. I still have a few from back then, have rebought others including the old Dennis Fire Engine and the double decker bus.

Well I think it looks good, I bought the fiesta because I read your thread, and it is a great kit so far. I will say that with the fiesta(don't know about the mini) but the body has a texture to it, it is not smooth. So you have to sand it down, and not ruin the details, so I can see how yours could have some texture to the paint. As for the polishing, I polish after decals and clear, which I know some polish before decals, and I use the micro mesh polishing kit.

Yes model-collector, the bodies do have a textured finish, which is difficult to get rid of without taking away the detail. I've painted my fiesta and will continue it's build once I've finished a chopped '49 Mercury in the same vein as TJ Lavin's Ford last year (Camo green with USAF markings!)

If you polish after clear isn't there a fear that you could go through the clear and ruin the decals?

The textured finish is the only real downside of these models( at least to me). I can't wait to see how your fiesta turns out, I can't stop working on mine! I also should of said that I will usually smooth out the paint before the decals, then apply the decals. You do have to be careful not to polish through the clear, it can take a while to do, but the results speak for themself.
