Do You Sand Before Clear?

Ok guys and gals, what do you do? if the Tamiya color lays out smoot do you sand before the clear? And if so what grit?

I don't typically clear over Tamiya colours unless it's a metallic. However, if you're going to clear than I'd smooth the colour with a 3,200 grit polishing pad.
