Neil Bass Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I built this Matchbox model about one year ago. It was a challenge (for me) to build such a small car in 1/32 scale. I added the spark plug wires, the parts on the firewall, and an oil filter line. I could not resist adding the fuel overflow tubes on the carburetor float bowls. Apparently the fuel lines from the bowls clog regularly and they would dump raw gas onto the exhaust manifold if these tubes didn't route the gas down to a location below the manifold and dump the gas on the ground. The kit lacked a line depicting the separation of the oil pan and engine block...I was almost done before I noticed it and I added some styrene strip in a hurry. The air filter lacked any intake vents so I added some from a Nascar radiator "grille" decal. Better than nothing I guess. I added the map pockets on the inside of the doors, along with a map made by cutting out a bit of a decal sheet. I think the sheet was from a 1960's Hot Wheels car. Yep, I am old. Lastly, I made the plywood floor boards from cardstock. The heavy black paint is wearing away and needs to be renewed. I made this baby into a race car (at the very last minute) because the windscreen was too clunky and needed eradication. This makes the presence of the roadmap a little interesting....must be a very old-fashioned road course. Thanks for looking!
Eshaver Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Niel, if you can still work in 1-32 nd scale , you ain't dat old . Look, I can hardly work in 1-24th scale . Me, I'm as nearly old as dirt . My son sez so too. Great work !!!!!!!!!!!
Harry P. Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 That's a very small car in real life... in 1/32 scale that must be a tiny model! Looks nice! Of course, it's missing a few things... like a way to steer the front wheels, for one...
Neil Bass Posted September 16, 2013 Author Posted September 16, 2013 Of course, it's missing a few things... like a way to steer the front wheels, for one... Didn't I mention this was a slot car? (I can't believe I never noticed that before!)
Danno Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Neat! I've always had an irrational appreciation of these old MGs.
peekay Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Nice work! I like this 1.32nd series from Matchbox..If you like 1.32nd have a look at Tomy's Jaguar SS100, one of the nicest car kits in any scale.
ChrisBcritter Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Excellent job on a tiny model! (I would have guessed it was 1/25 from the photos.) Reminds me of the one from Don Stanford's novel The Red Car - just add a set of 1954 Colorado plates.
Neil Bass Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Hey, thanks for all the great compliments! I enjoyed them very much. I forgot to mention that the tail light was a little after market gadget from the Tiffany's Speed Catalogue. I wasn't too happy with the molded on tail light so I glued on a cheap (but real) ruby.
PatW Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Another superb build of a Brit car, well done.
