What can brown do for you?  Remember that ad campaign few years back?   Incompetence!

12:55 PM, Thursday, just dropped the package.

I assume my hanging huge yellow signs on either side of my mailbox this AM that said

UPS LOOK HERE   helped somewhat.   ;)

Continuing saga of my water filter company.  Called again today, their voicemail box was full for both phone numbers.  So I searched for other ways to contact them.  Discovered on their Fakebook page permanently closed.  Their website did not announce they are closed.  Called the ROC, and BBB, found they were suspended without Bond, and Not Rated.  Called the AZ Bankruptcy Court, no filing.  So they just folded up, leaving us to fend for ourselves.  So much for their lifetime guarantee.  😡  I'm betting they sold so many systems, and couldn't get enough service workers, that they couldn't keep up.

Otherwise known as "take the money and run", an increasingly popular business model, leaving you in permanent flushed mode.

Guess it's time to go back to pouring your water through sand and chunks of charcoal in a coffee filter.

Seriously, I feel bad for you getting stung, but these days, so much of the "health" and "energy saving" and "green" and "safety" and "environmental" stuff out there is either smoke-and-mirrors, wild exaggeration, or just flat outright lies, it's becoming par for the course.

Lifetime warranties go hand in hand with health club memberships; they sign up too many people, go bankrupt, someone else takes over the locations and changes the name, rinse and repeat.

When I bought my house in 1989, I bought a washer and dryer from a local company that promoted "free lifetime service".  They dropped the appliances off, about a week and a half later the stores closed.  The owners kept the service center open and tried to get the customers of the closed stores to purchase service contracts.  That didn't fly, and the service center closed shortly thereafter.

The other possibility is they closed up shop and will reopen under another name and do it again.

I got it about 20 years ago, guess I got my money's worth.  Yea on the sales pitch, but AZ water is hard.

Yep.  When I built my house, the HVAC contractor offered a duct cleaning long term service, passed on it, and a couple years later he was belly up.

Yep.

My refrigerator is acting up too.  "Stuff" like this always come in batches for me. 😑

I never buy extended warranties on electronics or appliances.  First reason would be the "go out of business and reopen under another name" business model.  Second, my thought is that if something were to go bad or if the item in question was a lemon, it would krap out right out of the box during the basic warranty.  Except for one $100 microwave that went belly up about two weeks after the one-year warranty ended, things have pretty much worked out.

Yup, 20 years is a pretty good run for just about anything that's in constant use.

And just a thought...another possible factor contributing to the demise of the company just might be the increasing difficulty of hiring anyone with physical skills to do anything

I personally know heavily-skill-dependent business owners who are winding down, preparing to walk away, because it's becoming almost impossible to continue with today's labor pool.

Every time I mention this fact, I'm shouted down by the peanut gallery...but interestingly never by anyone who depends on employees with hard physical skills to stay in business.

Pointing a phone app at a broken machine won't fix it.

I see it happening in the consucktion industry.  All my builder clients complain about finding guys worthy of being called a carpenter.  One said he was a journeyman, Contractor looked at a simple job he worked on and was immediately fired, had to be redone by the Contractor.  Same goes for Engineers, not many people coming out of universities to begin with, and the recent one who worked on one of my jobs screwed up pretty good, I'm still waiting for the principal to stamp my drawings so I can jump to submitting for permit.  Don't get me going about the freaking building departments, I'm so wanting to walk away because they are ....... I better stop my rant here. 🤬

If you're running Chrome, see if there isn't some janky extension installed. This is a popular method for popping those things up. You should also clear your cache regardless of browser.

Learning I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Explains some of the pain in my shoulders, wrists and arms. But, not all of it. Something else going on too. VA Doctors & I are trying to track it down. Lots of inter-related things I am discovering.

Oh Well, if you're in pain, you ain't dead yet. Morbid, but the only way for me to face it.

(that and thinking about models!)

I shut down and didn't use the computer for a day. Tried it today and so far no problems. It was weird, popped up full screen saying I performed a illegal act and call this number.   Ya right ! I ain't calling anyone.

Pretty much the mantra that gets me through most days.

I don't find it to be morbid at all, actually...just good for a laugh (usually)...'cause if you can laugh at something, it doesn't own you. :D
