I've always hated driving on the Masspike.

Did I mention I absolutely hate driving in Pennsylvania?

I hated driving anywhere on the upper east coast!

LOL!

NY isn’t so bad as long it’s not from Albany to NYC.

Maine is the only state I found easy to drive in. Maryland isn’t too bad if you can survive the Beltway in Baltimore.

Ain't that the truth! I used to loathed the drive into Baltimore. I had the pleasure two times a week of driving an old worn but still plugging along Ford C-600 delivery box truck on occasion to pick up or deliver parts to a couple of businesses and a Goodwill facility we used to subcontract piece work to. Never a fun drive, had to have eyes up your arse, the patience of a saint and nerves of steel. I couldn't imagine driving there now with crime running so rampant and car jackings on the rise. Hell its not even safe for a cop!  Think about that.. Gives surviving the beltway new meaning.. Sad state of affairs... ?

I have suffered a whole day of sickly. sentimental Christmas films. If I see another Santa, elf, sleigh, reindeer, North Pole, schmaltzy “feel good moment” or fir tree, I will not be responsible for my actions.

Sounds like you're stuck in Hallmark-ville.

My wife and I would sit all day watching Hallmark Christmas movies with a box of tissues.. Did I mention we were cutting onions at the same time..?... ?°° TISSUES? That brings me to one of today's Irks. As I started to pull the clothes out of the washing machine I noticed that I didn't catch that dad had a wadded up tissue stuffed in his pajama pocket..? little pieces of tissue on everything. Unfortunately it's the job of the laundry guy to check these things. So I'll have to have a talk with myself about doing a better inspection on the next load..?

Oh man, how I can relate!  My mom habitually stuffs paper tissues in all her pockets.  I sometimes miss one pocket when prepping her laundry. Oh boy!  What a pain!  I have a top-loader washer and the interior tub has a speckled white color.  I have no chance of seeing the slivers of thin paper until I wait for the washer's interior to dry. Even then I need to use my very bright LED flashlight to spot the flakes of tissue (when dry, they are ever so slightly brighter white than the washer's tub).  I just got an idea:  If the tissue paper glows blue if exposed to UV light, I'll try using my UV flashlight next time (because I know there will be next time)!  At least the tissue flakes aren't too much problem in the dryer. The seem to get blown onto the lint filter.  But some of the paper flakes stay stuck to clothes. I need a sticky roller to take care of that.  Oh man, I didn't need to be reminded of this on the Chistmas Day!  :P

The city's trash contractor just sent out a text message that city wide trash and recycling will be picked up one day later.  Thanks for the heads up considering this a.m. is our normal pick up date.

Sorry Pete for rekindling an Irk on a day if rest. I like the idea of using a UV light. Might make me feel like I'm on a CSI show. ? so when it happens again I can call for back up..

Don't worry Mike. It is for us just part of the course. Taking care of our parent, for better and for worse.   Just did 2 loads of mom's clothes today, and no disintegrated tissues this time. :)

Still no Model Car issue #222. Two emails requesting a replacement but have no idea if they've been received and done. If they have, the mail service is not doing their job!

Back in the day my boss ordered a new wood credenza for his office.  The building was a double height workshop with a floor of offices above that.  So the staircase was like 2 stories straight up!  It took 3 of them to get the credenza up there.  Then we noticed the finish didn't match the office!  I told them to take it away!  The lead guy argued that he was going to leave it there until their company decided the recourse. I told them nope, and they had to drag it back down two  stories.

I told them the lesson here was when something needed to match, bring up something small like a drawer to check!

You are correct In the lesson ?°° that they probably didn't learn. In the 30 years of working with wood cabinetry we color matched many jobs. Number one rule was to prep, stain or color spray a wooden sample and clear coat it. After the sample was approved by the customer we would cut the sample in half and give one half to the customer and the other half for our shop to duplicate on the customers order.

I get into my car today,i needed to get some stuff in the back.I reached in the back to get it,and that’s when i felt water, and a lot of it,puddled up on the passenger floor board.Had to be at least 2,3 inches of water. Now i had, what I thought was a leak from the window in the front seat under my mat. That lasted about two years,we tried everything, and for the most part,it stopped leaking. So why now,do I HAVE A @&%}*+ LEAK in my back???????

Not enough time to name the irks that have ruled my last two days and especially nights! Hoping the bed alarm will help control one of them. I have found that being creative is necessary in my new line of work. We have an old service bell like you'd find on the countertop at a shop to ring to get the attendants attention.. I place it next to my dad wherever he's sitting. He rings and I come a running.. Works great during the day but at night?? That's when Mr. Hyde emerges and is the cause of needing the bed alarm. The next day when we talk Dr Jekyll knows nothing about it but acknowledges it's wrong and that he wouldn't do that..?

I assume you want to know if he's left the bed and is wandering.  Something like a lawn tractor seat kill switch would do the trick.

Most definitely! I ordered a bed alarm and used it last night for the first time. Works great! What works in my favor is he can not hear the tone it makes due to his poor hearing. I was on him before he could walk a step away from the bed. I realize the alarm won't stop the get up out a beds but it does lower the risk of him falling while going on a nightly journey.. ?°° that would take ratchet straps or duct tape.. ? just kidding!

I also thought about a expansion gate to place in the bedroom doorway about chest to groin height. When I told him of this idea he said "I'll just kick it out!" At least he's still honest so we'll ditch that and stick with just the alarm.

the bed alarm will be a massive help to you, and might even allow you to relax a little during the night. theres an easier fix than a stair gate to keep him in his room at night too, just swap door handles and tumblers from a door that opens the other direction. then it needs to be lifted to open it and with dementia/alzheimers thats something that wouldn't occur to them to think off. It works best with the doors that have a handle rather than the round/ball type handles. its something simple to swap but it will help keep them safe. one of those find my keys/gps tags can be useful too if he has a jacket he wears most, just hide one in the lining then you have a simple tracking device if he does get out. even with all these things theresa high chance he will still get out so maybe saying something to your neighbours  to call if they see him out alone.

You are correct Les. Just knowing that the alarm was there I was able to relax and fall asleep faster. I'm a lite sleeper and it takes me longer to fall back asleep but the alarm alleviated that stress. I did the door knob switch in the basement door, which is the ball type knob so the locking mechanism is on the other side. I had to remove his bedroom door in order to be able to get the wheelchair through the opening. I have a transport chair also which is narrower but it causes the carpet to start to move, it's wall to wall bounded carpet that's not permanently tacked down over oak wood flooring. I'd love to rip out the carpets but there is wall to wall antique furniture on it in every room and nowhere to move it too so that's a job for another day way down the road, when the time comes..?  Great suggestions.. I appreciate your input!
