Had about 6 inches of snow last night, first snow of the season.  Melting now.  When the city snow plow truck came by, they clipped my mailbox..ripped it and the pole out of the ground on my tree lawn.  Grrrr

Had a FedEx driver do that to me once. Caught him in the act and he bought me a new one. Municipalities are actually supposed to replace the mailbox if they damage them like this. I would take some photos and go down to town hall.

BTW I had 5" last night and then it turned to slush.

Oh boy. Need a new furnace. The one in my new house was installed in 1993 and WAY over sized for a 900 sq foot home. AC is newer so I hope it will be OK. I'll find out how much in the next hour when the project manager comes to evaluate. Thinking somewhere between 4-5k. Oy!

I got two new furnaces and two new air conditioners installed for my new house back in April.   The old ones were installed in '94 and '97 when the house was expanded and the installations weren't up to current local codes and the A/Cs were inefficient for a 3200 sq ft house. Was $25k to replace all 4.   Now apparently my meter and main electrical panel are undersized for the power usage, need a new main panel, new 4 wire connection to the meter, etc... $10k.   The joy of home ownership..

Based on conversations with a couple of different HVAC people in the past, the sizing of the heat or ac unites should match the square footage of the structure. Based on what they said using an oversized unit can be just as bad as an undersized unit. Something to talk to the HVAC people when the time comes.

Been there, done that. Home inspector missed live knob and tube. Gets expensive fast.

Yep, I have it. Pain shoots from lower back, on the right side, all the way down to my lower calf. It only flares up occasionally, but when it does...

Here’s someone who deserves an award for their parking.

What would say is appropriate?

It is not their fault. The car's video system operating the 360 degree view cameras outside of the car is way out alignment. The driver clearly saw on the video screen that he was parked within the marked parking space. :D

So yeah......looks like I need it all. Furnace and AC. $12,700. Someone put a 3 ton AC unit, WAY too oversized. No wonder my AC cost so much to run. New stuff should be around 20-30% more efficient. I look at it this way. I'll have peace of mind to spend to the rest of my life here with new stuff.

Driving to work today I had to stop for a school bus loading up a bunch of kids, several of which got out of cars after being driven to the bus stop.  After loading the kids the bus drove to the next corner and took a left and then went a block further and dropped them off at the school. SERIOUSLY, the kits literally had a block and a half ride to school. What has this world come too? They could have probably walked to the school in less time then they stood their waiting.

Pure 100% laziness.Thats kids today for ya.They can’t do anything but mess with their phones,(which I’m actually doing now too),🤣

I'm not sure if I'm irked about this or not but last Friday, my mechanic checked my trusty Accord for a major power steering leak and couldn't find the source. He filled the power steering reservoir and told me to keep an eye on it. Since. then, the reservoir stayed full and I park the car in different spots at work and at home to check for the leak but not a drop was found on the ground. It's a quirky little car.

Keep an eye on that. The same thing happened recently to my 09 Crown Vic.It leaked.I filled it,it stopped.Thought I was in the clear.A few days later,it was empty again.I always keep spare fluids in my trunk.I filled it again, and a couple of days later, bam!!empty again. So I just changed the line and since then, she’s fixed.

After seeing this again it jogged a memory of when our daughter graduated to go into high school. We live within 1/4 mile walking distance to the school, only problem was she would have had to cross a two lane highway with a 55 mph speed limit. No way was that going to happen. We advocated for a bus stop in our development. Not sure why there wasn't a bus stop since we had around 6 kids that went to that very school. The school administration agreed.

Yup same thing happened to me last year.My mailbox was ripped out of the ground and found about three houses down, under about 6 inches of snow.I called the highway dept, and surprisingly they replaced the mail box,no questions asked.I was shocked.

Not an irk but we decided to replace our furnace and AC earlier this year. Expensive but more efficient and VERY quiet.

On this HVAC subject. We had to replace the AC in our former home after about 18 years from new. The old and the new units were both rated about the same and were of proper size for the home per the HVAC guy that replaced the old unit. The reason for replacement was the electronics were failing and the cost to replace them and the age of the unit made it cost effective to just replace the whole thing. An interesting note was that the next-door neighbor who bought the house from the original owners about a year before our AC bit the dust had to replace their AC unit. We knew the couple that built that home and theirs was about 18 months old when our home was built. While I noticed that their new unit was smaller in physical size, they assured me that it worked better and cost less to operate. When our unit was replaced the overall size of the outdoor unit was even somewhat smaller than theirs, but we had the same experience as they did. The newer units on the market today seem to have a smaller size for the outside unit but are far more efficient than before.

So Murphy popped up in my garage this morning,  winterizing the motorcycles for the winter. Got back from a ride and what do I hear, a faint knock. At least I have a spare engine, good compression but I've never heard it actually run, so guess I'll have some fun this winter.

The guy who does my grandma's driveway. Pays him around $40 I think. That's 40 bucks to plow the damn driveway, not tear up the lawn and shove piles of gravel (itsa gravel driveway) onto the lawn. Does a half @$$ job of the plowing, too. Uses a little tractor that does have a blower on the rear. Barely uses it; just plows. Last year I was raking PILES of gravel back onto the driveway from the lawn; if I didn't have school in the morning I sware to Gad I'd be here at like 5:30 in the morning to properly snow blow the driveway. It's a long one but still, I'd do it right and for free. Just gets under my grill when I come here and see the F mess made. I literally pour my heart and soul into keeping that place ship shape; picking up where my grandfather left off; but winter is a little trickier to maintain than the other 3 seasons.

Sounds like your in the same boat as I am with my dad's house that I took over after his passing earlier this year. Now I have two properties to maintain, not complaining and I'm honored to take over his property. Just hope I can do as well as he did your years. Your work ethics and love for your grandparents is very impressive.. 🫡

It’s mainly because, one, it’s one hell of a nice piece of property, two, been in the family since 1965, and three I basically grew up there; it’s a pretty special place to me anyway

Seems like the guys plowing driveways always overbook themselves.  When it isn't snowing, they're raking in the money.  But, when there is a halfway decent snow storm, they're caught off guard and left unable to take care of everyone who contracted their services.  The people who don't get taken care of in a timely manner will sign up with someone else, but they're probably just switching to another overbooked guy.

Since I'm a stickler on "Christmas starts after Santa arrives at the end of the Macys parade," it's a little bothersome to me when folks put up their Christmas lights barely into November, but that isn't the irk. It's the display of the neighbor across the street. Her all-LED lights are up now a day early, red and white - Christmassy colors so far - but the 3rd color is best described as 'nuclear-reactor-meltdown-radioactive blue.' Super bright. It looks like the 4th of July over there.
