Casting resin

Folks,

I have been out of the loop for about 10 years. Did some resin casting way back and have some items I want to reproduce..

1.Can anyone tell me what resin products they are using now? I am familiar with Freeman, Smooth On and Alumalite and the Micro mark Casting resin. Does anyone else have a favorite resin.

2. What do the Aftermarket resin casters use?

3. do use use vacumn or pressure for your molding and casting processes?

I prefer Silicones and resins from Raw material suppliers out of Cali. The silicone is the same high grade, self degassing rubber from smooth on without the ridiculous shipping fees. I use their 180S (180 second cure) resins as well. For clear I like Alumilite's water clear. I use a pressure pot (homemade from a paint pot) to pressure cast and find that vacuum chambers are a waste of time and money.

_{Depending on the material you use, vacuum and or pressure may not be required for decent results. Smooth On has some products that fit that description.}

_{I use products from BJB in Tustin CA. The materials I use benefit hugely from both vacuum and pressure.}

_{Although, the RTV I use is not as sensitive to needing to be vacuumed as the two main resin materials I use, failure to vacuum the resins I use prior to casting will almost always result in defective if not useless parts. The RTV and resins also benefit immensely from curing under pressure.}
