Wildrice Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Has anyone built this AMT kit? If so what color yellow did you use for the engine? I need to finish one for a Christmas present for my Mom.
Phil Patterson Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I built the prepaint Edsel and looking at mine that color of yellow is very very close to Zinc Chromate Yellow. You may find it easiest in a selection of military paints. One caution, getting the floor pan to fit up into the body is really touchy on these, be careful and very patient. IIRC, I slipped mine into the rear panel first, then worked it up into the body, but it took a couple of tries. Firewall and dashboard clearance can be a problem. Just figured I'd give you fair warning, It's been a couple years now since I finished mine, maybe someone will have fresher memorys of this particular step in assembly.
Wildrice Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Thanks for the info on fit problems. I have the pre painted one too and the engine is a light green. Just noticed you are from WV also. Where at?
Phil Patterson Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Thanks for the info on fit problems. I have the pre painted one too and the engine is a light green. Just noticed you are from WV also. Where at? About an hour south of you in the sticks of Lewis Co, out past Weston. BTW, you don't know or have heard from any of the Central WV Modeler guys lately? No show this year in Morgantown, don't know if the club imploded or what...
Wildrice Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Club is still going strong. No show this year or next year as of now.
Jairus Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 (edited) Bobby, Ford has never been too concerned with matching proper engine colors. The engine color is usually only there to keep rust at a minimum and the paint generally came from the lowest bidder. Therefore, since Edsel engines were assembled in Cleveland, OH, Dearborn, MI and Wayne, MI., sometimes the engine color between two cars built from two different assembly plants may vary slightly. But this is what it is suppose to be: Engine ColorsE-400 V8 Standard for Ranger, Pacer, Villager, Bermuda, Roundup Yellow (1972 GM Color code 52, Dupli-Color code DS-GM-167): Block, heads, water pump, intake manifold, oil filler tube, oil pan Off-White (Mix four parts Derusto Gloss White #874/D-23 and one part Derusto Gloss Almond #884/D-34): Air Filter cover, valve covers Reddish-Orange: E-400 Stenciled on embossed letters Gloss Black: Brackets, generator, fan, pulley, starter motor, flywheel cover, inner fender aprons, radiator Semi-gloss Black: Frame, front suspension, core support, etc. Natural: Transmission bell housing, distributor, exhaust manifolds, fender attaching bolts Edited November 16, 2007 by Jairus
Jairus Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Some more digging and I found this..... Engine Colors for E-475 V8 Standard for Citation & Corsair Green (similar to 1978 Porsche "Fern Green" - DuPont code 273, Porsche code 45639AH): Block, heads, water pump, intake manifold, oil filler tube, oil pan Off-White (Mix four parts Derusto Gloss White #874/D-23 and one part Derusto Gloss Almond #884/D-34): Air filter cover, valve covers Reddish-Orange: E-475 Stenciled on embossed letters Gloss Black: Brackets, generator, fan, pulley, starter motor, flywheel cover, inner fender aprons, radiator Semi-gloss Black: Frame, front suspension, core support, etc. Natural: Transmission bell housing, distributor, exhaust manifolds, fender attaching bolts That explains the green shade mentioned earlier.
