Yeah, he'll just stay in the same place and keep complaining............like the rest of us that live here :P

Yeah Joe, I was that way for 41 years. Then a job offer came to move to Charlotte 8 years ago and am I glad I took it! Have only been back to Chicago 3 times in 8 years when the temperature wasn't at least 50 degrees, something about that cold and wind that is no longer fun to deal with.

Supposed to be 60 and sunny this Sunday for the Panthers/49ers playoff game, might have to paint a couple of models at halftime! :P

Right now (6:30 PM) it's 40 degrees, it's been raining all day, the 12-16 inches of snow we have on the ground is melting fast, and they've issued a flood advisory due to all the rain plus melting snow.

Geez... around here if it's not one weather problem it's another...

Hey!! Don't judge Harry...it seems we are all doing a little of that.

....and isn't the "S" word...supposed to be followed by the "P" word? (P= pothole)

Not "Flood"!!

Isaw something on the news about that, supposedly Chicago is already starting on putting cold patches into the ones that have since appeared.

Caught the WGN news last night (old habits are hard to kick!) and they were saying there are so many potholes in Chicago that they have crews working 7 days a week trying to get caught up! Doesn't help when the weather goes from 40 above to 20 below to 40 above all in a span of 7 days!

Every time it gets like this my brother likes to tell his to cold for the car to start story.

Back in the early eighties he was in Hocking Hills Ohio visiting a old man his buddies knew . It was -10 and the wind was blowing. They get up on the morning and the old slant six will not turn fast enough to fire. The old man told them to get the big pan behind the stove. They looked at him funny and he told them to put the hot coals from the stove in the pan and place it under the engine. After an hour and a refill of the pan the slant six came to life. Hillbilly block heater .

A lady here in our area just burned her car up doing that. Darwin award contender there.

It's 48 here, I think I might die.

I have a standing job offer, a really good one, in Winnipeg. I was born and raised and still live in Southern California. It's double what I make now, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

I used to live in Santa Barbara. If I can do it, so can you. I live here in the frozen tundra where people think it's nothing to go shirtless or in bikinis during a Packer game.

O come on now. Here in Milwaukee, we just drink more whiskey. Or go to sauna with our Finnish friends. They closed the schools for two days last week. They never did that when I was a kid. It had to be up to 10 inches of snow for that to happen. We are raising a nation of wusies now.

I am just wondering how we can send a rocket to the moon and mars and still have pot holes here on Earth? LOL

Have you seen the roads on the moon? They're in terrible shape!:P

I ran Rt. 38 from West Chicago to St. Charles going to work today and there were some pretty healthy ones from where it meets Washington St./Fabian Parkway all the way through Geneva to the strip mall we're in. It was bad enough I sent my sister a text telling her to watch out for them while she was out today. My Jeep is still rolling on 15's wearing 235/75R15 Wranglers, but her Charger and my 200 have 18's with very short sidewall tires!

That is kinda funny, It's the same here. We would have to go to school in the cold we had, a well as when the snow was severe, but they aren't doing that any more. I remember one year in high school that our van slid amost as much as it drove due to the road conditions around my school. I'm kinda wondering if it's wussification of the younger generations, fear of lawyers, or now senior staffers as well as teachers my age that remember going to work/school in really sketchy conditions and not allowing that to continue. Today I swam the two hour ride from Pennsylvania to New Jersey for my club meeting. A wet soggy ride. It rained all day in NJ, and on the way home. I did drive out of the rain as I headed west on my way home, even hitting road that was dry. And it's 46 degrees out right now so I'm hoping to get some outdoor work done tomorrow. I want to change some plugs and oil!

Can You say: JOB SECURITY

May very well be. I remember someone saying many years ago that they use a different asphalt in Europe that doesn't get pot holes and lasts much longer, and the freeze / thaw cycles can be more severe there. They were saying that we use inferior asphalt here because of labor unions demanding so to keep people employed replacing roads! I don't know how much of it I believe.

My dads old Boy Scout buddy went over to Europe for his company while there he asked about roads and such . They told him they made the contractors bid the jobs by how long the roads would last along with price. If they were pulling his leg is a good question.
