pharoah Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) I just bought an original Big Tub from fleabay. The builder did a pretty decent job,but they had strange ideas. They painted a lot of the chrome pieces with white and red paint. The wheels, headers, suspension parts, even the headlight lenses were painted. Is there a safe way to remove it without hurting the chrome? it's been on there a long time too. Thanks for the help. Edited January 3, 2014 by pharoah
Swamp Dog Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 NO..removeing the paint will cause the chrome to remove also..then use ALCLAD to re-chrome..
pharoah Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 I've nevr had good luck with Alclad. It looks like bright silver, but no where near like chrome.
Swamp Dog Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 i never had any problems with it ..did u use a black primer ?
pharoah Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 I used a gloss black under it. I've heard it's all in the air pressure, and angle of the airbrush.
my80malibu Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 It would depend on what type of paint was used. if it's acrylic, it will almost wash off with some gentle scrubbing. Enamel, and laquer paint will need something stronger, use laquer thinner with q-tip swabs. I do this when I black wash a grill. Most of the chrome is garbage in that kit. IMHO. You would be better off with alclad.
