I have a handicapped parking placard. But, very rarely use it. I used to not be able to walk very well or far at a time and needed it. Now that I can walk better and farther, I figure there's always someone out there that needs that spot more than I do. There are a lot of disabilities. But, not all of them require a handicapped parking place. Especially those that have no effect on a person's ability to walk. Handicapped parking spaces should only be for people in wheel chairs or those that have to have a walker or cane to be able to walk.

What about those of us that have breathing problems or Heart conditions that make us lack any stamina?...I have 24/7 pain...walking,etc. aggravates the pain and heart problems most of the time...run out of breath and heart races I have a heart condition called(Tachycardia) or really rapid heart rate while resting..more activity faster it gets and chest pain follows...I have good days and bad ones...good days i wont use the spot..bad ones I have to. I use a cane 90 percent of the time depending on how far I have to go. I agree there is a lot of abuse out there..if in doubt call the police and have their card checked or ask but to pick a fight with someone that might be disabled?????...believe me here getting a permit is very hard unless your on deaths door they will only approve you for one if you qualify...for me it was my doctor decided i needed to have one so they filed the paperwork. I know a few people that if they get too worked up they will have a heart attack on the spot...does someone want to be responsible for killing someone just because they have personal doubt if someone qualifies to park??????

My late wife was disabled, and used a van. We once came out of a store to find a motorcycle parked in the blue-striped area set aside for ramp access. I kicked the motorcycle down, prompting the offending owner to mouth off and threaten me. He rethought his policy once the knife came out, and I asked him if he wanted to dance. I was rather mean-spirited when faced with situations like that, and they did happen regularly. The police, when called, NEVER provided any assistance in such situations. Ultimately, I found far greater satisfaction in solving the problem myself.

Lessee ... for the crime of parking next to your van you commit vandalism and assault with a deadly weapon? You are not a person I'd want to know.
