How many of you have built this kit and what did you experience with it?

I have one that I've let sit for years and years (like so many of my "must have" models), and I am considering paying ridiculous bucks for the new diecast version rather than building the Revell version. The Revell seems ok, but compared to all my other 1/12 models it doesn't seem very detailed or well molded. Plus, it looks like all the bright work is attached by most visible areas and the chrome will be ruined when detaching. What's your solution for this?

While the body shape isn't totally awful (but the molding is loaded with sink marks, seams, flash, etc), the overall kit is horrible and very toylike, with tons of inaccuracies. It was originally a Renwal kit, and it's hard to believe it was reissued under the Revell and monogram labels.

This builder did it as good as it gets -- you can read his comments:

Thanks for the link and info. I hate to even start another kit or project, but I have always liked the 300SL and some other Mercedes marks over the years. This kit has always put me off a bit with its clumsy bright work and toyish underpan, though. I have taken HTF diecasts and detailed them to approaching the real thing, but it gets tiresome having to figure out how to compensate for poor detail in parts I cannot replicate.

BTW: I have two of the old Ferrari 275GTB kits I really want to move forward with (because I think it is the best looking car ever...even more than the XKE), but the body shape just plain bothers me. Something isn't right, and I don't think I can correct it. Maybe I should just build them and do my best and they will be what they are. It's not like I have an alternative to them. I plan a stock street version and a race version.....in my dreams.:)

The better choices for the Gullwing are in 1/16, either Italeri or Minicraft/Entex. To me, a bit of parts swapping between the two will yield the best results. There was a recent thread on the Italeri 1/16 here, but I can't find it.

Same old messed-up kit.

Yes, just a very nice decal sheet this time around. At least they were honest and forthright with their description opening.

Deze kit heb ik gekocht, super slecht afgewerkt. Voor het bovendeel heb ik al een nieuwe gekregen, de A stijlen waren misvormd. Maar nu passen het bovendeel en het onderdeel niet op elkaar. Enorm slechte pasvorm.

Well, thanks. I'm aware of online translators. The point was that this seems to be English-speaking forum. AndryR could have have done the same, and made their post in English. Yes, I know it is a newbie, but they must have realized that this is a English language forum.  I speak Polish, but I don't make my posts in Polish (well except the earlier one, just to make my point).

Rusty92, I'm not sure why you tagged my post as confusing - there is *NOTHING* confusing about it.  This world is getting really, really weird.

EDIT: And another confused tag from Rusty.  I'm beginning to be confused as to what confuses him. :)

If you want a good large-scale kit of the Gullwing, the 1/16 Minicraft is the best affordable one. The Italeri version has some problems with body shape, though their roadster is very good except for the windshield.

For those that may not want to take the time to look up the translation:

This kit I bought, super poorly finished. For the upper part I already got a new one, the A styles were misshapen. But now the upper part and the part don't fit together. Huge bad fit.

I use DeepL Translate. It pretty much has what I've needed, except for Klingon.

And the doors aren't nearly as wide as the original.
